Thread Topic: Would pizza be considered Italian or American food?

It was made in the US by an Italian.
It evolved from flatbread dishes they'd have in Naples, Italy, but it was also very American influenced.
So this begs the question, which would it be considered as? -
Wait, I remember reading something once that said it was created in America. Looks like I was really wrong with that.
Nevermind, then, it's Italian. -
Well I'd say it's more of a staple american dish than a staple Italian dish. My friends are from Italy and pizza isn't a huge part of their daily diet.
Most of the 'ethnic' food we eat has been Americanized. Mexican, Chinese, Italian. Very little of it is truly indictive of the food regularly consumed in those regions, it merely borrows their cultural influences.
That makes me wonder if in other countries they consider certain foods to be "American" even though we don't really eat it here. Brb gonna go do some extensive research 😅 -
Yeah, like I said, the pizza we know and love has had some heavy American influences.
But also just keep in mind that just because they don't eat it very often doesn't mean it didn't originate from there. -
Lol food is definitely americanized over there. I remember talking to a friend about asian food and they didn't have half the dishes I had tried while I- Somebody who is wasian and v in touch w my asian side- had never heard of half the dishes they were talking about and when they described some of the dishes they had there I was like wtf... LOL ðŸ˜
I've seen vids abt "american" restaurants in foreign countries and they usually look v tacky and have some weird idea of what American food is LOL. Over here in NZ - When people think of American food, they think of mostly only burgers, fries, doughnuts, and like milkshakes ? Idek if yall have anything else ur super known for in regards to food.... 😟
When we get fast-food restaurants that pop up that were originally from America tho, everybody obsesses over this brand new 🌠American🌠restaurant and how they've got to go and try it!!! Lmao -
There’s Italian pizza and then American pizza lol
I never consider Pizza Hut to be Italian, that’s 100% Americanized -
Chinese, scallion pancakes were the closest thing to pizza before it was actually invented.
-
Actually, pizza was invented in 977AD.
It wasn't until Marco Polo that the Italians found out about scallion pancakes, over 250 years later.
Scallion pancakes may have been around much longer, but it had nothing to do with the actual invention of pizza. -
Why can't it be both?
-
A fair point
