Shalinka Ana Olive is a crystalic, a creature that has inhuman powers. Crystalics can be identified by a tattoo-like mark in one part of their body. Crystalics have beauty and power, everything anyone wants. Shalinka falls in love with a man who doesn't care who she is. They have a child, and a scientist want it to experiement. Afraid for her child, Shalinka offers to have another child to give away, and the scientist agrees. She has another child, a baby girl, but feels a connection with her child and can't give her away. so when the scientist comes, and she has nothing to give him, the organiztion that the scientist works with forces her to give her children, and it ends with Shalinka being shot and her father fleeing. the boy [wo was 5 at the time] protects the sister and runs off with her. Now Scarlet, a child born for a ransom for her mother to prevent her baby boy being in hostage, grows up. And it goes in a series when the brother gets kidnapped and she tries to find him, and also falls in love with a human boy. it's a mystery and adventure book. and scarlet tries to find her father, who was secretly helping her all along by shapeshifting into a cat and watching her
