You sit on it or put a lot of pressure on it. I just put a leg of my desk on it when it does that. Knives subside, and then my hand just hurts from the desk. -

BTW the pins an needles feeling is due to poor blood circulation or a pinched nerve. If you move around a lot the feeling will usually go away
