He hated it all. He just wanted to get away. If death was his only option, sure, he'd gladly take that path. Xadrian Kendrix stopped in his tracks, putting one hand over his eyes to sheild them from the stinging wind and small chuncks of ice that came with it as well. As he was an albino, his eyes were more sensitive than normal, which was one of the only bad thoughts he had about his last decision. He was careful to only step in the right places, where it was frozen enough, and wouldn't cause him to sink into the snow that was already incredibly deep and becoming deeper by the minute. With luck, he could find shelter before the snow ended, so, hopefully, his tracks would be covered and Sullivan's trackers would have an even more difficult time finding him.
The thought of Sullivan was the cause of Xadrian's scowl, which was aimed at nothing in particular. Sullivan and his stupid animals.
No sane person would be out in weather like this, unless there was some sort of an emergency. This was true...to a certian point...for Xadrian.
Sullivan made his living by smuggling exotic animals onto the island. As expected, many of them died, as a result of the low temperatures. The ones that lived? They probably wished they were dead.
Sullivan was, possibly, the main reason Xadrian had turned his back on his own kind. He hated all humans, although he was one himself. Humans were the reason for war, pollution, species of animals being hunted to extinction...Xadrian hated them all.
The rabid dog that had eventually spread the disease to the Windsong pack and caused almost the whole pack to die out had been owned by humans.
The three remaining members of Windsong were possibly Xadrian's only reason for living.
crunch.
Xadrian's thoughts were interupted by a high-pitched whine, which told him of many days without good hunting. He looked up, and recognized the massive, silver-and-black form of Nakkita.
Nakkita here was rather infamous throughout nearby villages.
When prey was little and hunting was bad, he went to his last resort: livestock, sheep, and horses that were owned by humans. He was know as "The demon wolf", and was the inspiration of several scary stories. His size didn't help, either.
He was the size - slightly larger, in fact - of most cows. Xadrian walked up to Nakkita and scratched behind his ears.
They were both misunderstood.
A whimper - lower pitched than Nakkita's had been - greeted Xadrian. With all the snow and wind, Xadrian hurt his eyes trying to find the white-furred she-wolf, Lumina. Xadrian eventually found her by the black speck on her front right leg, and her crystal blue eyes, which seemed to invite you closer, like windows into the soul. Dusk's dark brown fur was easy to see, right behind Luna. He made no greeting when he spotted Xadrian, which xadrian had expected, as Dusk had always been wary of the human boy's presence. They were both the same massive size as Nakkita, only, since they were less eager to hunt on human territory, were not as well known. Xadrian, using Nakkita's shoulder as a step, climbed onto the wolf's back. He already knew he was in Windsong's old territory, as the three survivors weren't known for crossing onto other packs' territory. Xadrian hollered a simple command. Normally he would've whispered, but the wind was howling like the end of the world, and nobody ten feet away or farther could've heard his command. Nakkita flicked an ear in understanding, shook the snow off his head, and growled in annoyance. Xadrian braced himself not a moment to soon - and then Nakkita was off, followed by Lumina and Dusk. The silver-and-black wolf sped up, slowed down a bit, and then stayed at the same pace, in order to reserve energy that would need to be used if danger appeared somewhere in the storm. Such as one of the many humans who carried guns and dreamt of becoming famous as the man who killed the demon wolf. -

The tawny filly pawed at the snow in front of her, in an attempt to find the grass that she knew she'd seen before the snow came. She snorted in fustration and flattened her ears against her head. There had been grass here before the ice fell from the sky. She was sure of it! She paused her work for a moment to look over her shoulder, assuring herself that her mother was not too far away. She then turned her attention to the high fence before her, the edge of her small world. Beyond the fence was a never-ending whiteness, dotted with a black rock or dead tree here and there. The occasional snow bird's cry or wolf's howl completed the scene - a wilderness left alone by mankind. The filly herself had often run to her mother at the crack of a bullet or the roar of a motor, which didn't seem to belong in the picture and gave the small foal an unexpected shock.
The gray mare's call cut into the filly's thoughts. The filly did nothing, but looked back over her shoulder in question at her mother. Once again, the mare gave her warning, and the filly dashed across the snow-covered feild and back to the protection of her mother. A slight tremor went through the herd, followed by several more warnings, not unlike the gray mare's. The fast-moving form, which was not far away, was a familiar sight to the horses.
Those who had seen him before snorted or flicked an ear in recognition, almost as if trying to show how the herd had strengthened, and daring the massive wolf to come nearer. Those who had watched other horses fall as prey to Nakkita feared. The bay stallion pawed the ground and shook his mane in encouragement to his herd. There is only one Nakkita. There are many of us. If the great wolf sees we are weak and fearful, we will become his prey. As long as we stay together, Nakkita will fear was the stallion's message. His herd attempted to follow to follow his example. Remember those who have fallen prey to the demon wolf Were the stallion's last words of encouragement.
Nakkita let his pace slow slightly, and looked towards the nearest village, which was not far away. Xadrian, squinting, could eventually find the shapes of thirty or so horses, their field enclosed by a high fence. To Nakkita, the fence was an advantage. Once he was in the feild, the horses had virtually nowhere to run, and one or two would no doubt fall prey to Nakkita once again.
The herd panicked for just a moment when the massive wolf turned and headed their direction. Nakkita's ears were perked up, much like a war flag, showing no sign of fear.
The herd's sudden panic was ended when the door of the nearby human nest was flung open, slamming against the wall, and the yelling of the care-taker-human could be heard.
A clicking sound, and then a moment of silence. Nakkita stopped in his tracks.
CRACK!
It was Nakkita's turn to panic. He turned, and the bullet that had been aimed for the demon wolf's head missed and slammed into the ground, causing a small explosion and a puddle of melted snow.
Click-click.
CRACK!
Nakkita yelped when the bullet scraped his side, but, once again, missed what it has been aiming for. Nakkita turned, Xadrian gave a short yell of surprise, and the massive wolf sped off faster than he had come.
Click-click.
CRACK!
Although Nakkita was obviously out of range by now, the human, angered that the demon wolf would dare try to harm one of his horses, shot two more bullets before letting loose a minute of unrepeatable language and cursing the demon wolf. -
AND I IZ NOT TELLING YOU WHAT IT'S ABOUT. >:D You shall have to read it. xD

More @Brit:
And it's kind of a story about one of my roleplay/soap characters, Xadrian's, past.
