Is it 'they said their goodnights' or 'they said their good nights'
-
“Goodnight" is used as a leave taking, the opposite of a greeting. As a committee meeting is breaking up at 7pm, the various committee members may wish each other “Goodnight". Friends and family members say this to each other as they leave the coffee shop or restaurant.
“Good night" is used to describe a night, “good” being the adjective/modifier of “night". In a hospital, a nurse might tell a worried daughter that her father had a good night. A person who works overnight shifts might talk about having had a good night at work.
based off of this, i think it would be the 1st option -
Thanks, that helps a lot
