I'd probably just do a bunch of different types of candy he likes. My Christmas present to my dad sometimes is a couple big bags of reese's and a couple big bags of rolos

Socks. Lots and lots of socks. There's nothing worse in the morning than waking up for school and not being able to find a pair of socks

Hmmmmm, I’m not totally sure. I have a 2 year old brother, but his interests are different then 12 y/o boys.
Maybe some of those small LEGO sets or a candy cane? -

A mini ball
If he plays on ps4/pc/xbox you could get him a gift card for one of those
Pop figure of his favourite character if hes into that
A book about his favourite sports team
Shirt or clothing from his fav sports team

Beanie/gloves
A cool cup or mug lol
A watch
I have a brother the same age and found him really difficult to shop for ): -
