Gonna copy and paste this from my thread because I kind of feel like it fits
They used the holiday to replace Yuletide, which was twelve days long, starting on the twenty-fifth. That's why Christmas is on the 25th, rather than in the fall when it's actually more likely to be.
Yuletide is basically the secular version of Christmas. A time to gather with friends and family, and all that.
Christmas was invented to convert the pagans to Christianity. They kept some of the traditions, like present giving, and a few other things, and added symbolism to them that abided with the Bible.
And they have it so that after the 12 days of Christmas/Yuletide is Epiphany.
So the church year calendar is also kind of based on this.
And Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox, that's easy.
But I do find it funny how we'd be celebrating Christmas in the fall if there hadn't been any attempt to convert unbelievers. -
