Because of the pandemic, obviously there will be no physical graduation ceremonies happening, which means that I don't necessarily have to purchase a cap and gown. Right now, my mom is literally forcing me to take a picture in one for "her" because she claims that it's all her "hard work and dedication" which is entirely insulting since she had NO to barely any involvement in my school work. She didn't have to do the work, the tests, the social environment I had to endure, and now she has the gall to think she deserves it? Mind you I'm almost an adult. It's like I'm constantly roped into this situation where I desperately want to be independent, but she does everything in her sickening power to keep hold of her derangement and possession. You might have provided me resources (which is what every mother should do), but you were never there for me, ever. I literally had to deal with f---ing everything. She literally wouldn't even know which GRADE I'm in, and we live under the same roof. I'm not even livid, I'm just honestly very irritated and amused.
Am I or my mom in the right? -
You're right. Really, your mom needs to get over it if you're not upset.
Also, she should be happy to save money since it's not happening. -

If she wants to buy it sure, even if you're right sometimes it's best to put up with our parents antics because.. Well. They do provide the roof over your head. If your mother is the type to kick you out over petty bulls---, that is.
If she intends you to pay for it or if there won't be any trouble with you saying no, then by all means, stay firm. You shouldn't have to waste your money, and you are right.
But roof over your head > winning an argument -
