i have a dog named athena and she's the love of my life, may 17th will make it three years since I adopted her. She's between five and six, an american pitbull/some sort of hound mix. The shelter I adopted her from told me she was picked up during a dog fighting ring bust, but she has no scarring on her. She was definitely abused and the might have intended to use her as a bait dog, as she's very timid.
Before i got her i was struggling to even get out of bed most days. She gives me a reason to keep going. She's so f---ing happy with our simple little life, and watching her be content just sleeping comfortably all day.. Makes me feel less like a f--- up. Like I did this one good thing, I gave this living being a new shot at life.
I remember when I first saw her. It was at a shelter-hosted adoption event in front of the local tractor supply. (Fun fact I work there now) She was hunkered down in the far end of her kennel, eyeing everything. I could tell she was terrified. I crouched down in front of her kennel and spoke softly to her. She wouldn't even look at me at first, and I just felt this. Sadness radiating off of her.
A week later I adopted her. I had to fight my parents. My dad said an abused dog wasn't a good idea, the were unpredictable, unsafe. Plus she had been adopted from the shelter once and returned.
Nearly three years later I can't begin to imagine why. She's very low energy, doesn't bark, doesn't potty inside or make messes.. And I love her so, so much. I know the only way I'll be able to get over her passing will be to get another dog.
Honestly hurts just thinking about it. But I still feel lucky to be the one to keep her safe and loved until her final days. -

i have a hamster, but that’s all. xd
he’s rlly cute, but kinda mean sometimes because being around people puts him under a lot of stress. his name is mochi bcuz he’s a soft bean. ♡
when i first got him, he ate through the top of his cage and jumped out and i had to grab him before he escaped! xd he did bite me and it drew blood. his teeth are rlly big and sharp so it’s absolutely terrifying when he yawns. he hasn’t but anyone since, but he doesn’t like being touched around his face.
since he decided to eat through his cage, we had to buy a small aquarium to put him in. he can’t chew through glass, lol. he climbs up his water bottle and makes a mess w his food all the time, but i love my mochi. ♡ -
*bit
not but, that would be strange. -
I used to have a guinea pig named Simon. Simon was albino and had beautiful long hair. He was the second guinea pig my mom bought and w he was there to see all of my guinea pigs. once some of the other guinea pigs I have got into a fight with him and he lost some of his ear. He was and will forever be one of my favorite guinea pigs I have ever had.

my cousin’s cat had kittens, so we will be getting one of them soon! i’m excited, but i hope i’m not allergic to it because there’s been a few instances where i’ve had allergic reactions around cats. it’s only certain breeds.

I used to have a mutt whose name was Sandy. She looked a lot like Sandy from Annie. Her previous owners had abused her. They were trying to make her into a guard dog, but she just wasn't the type of dog for that. They'd throw her down steps, and the like.
My parents got her when she was 3, I think. I wasn't born yet. She hated my dad and all men. She was okay with kids.
My mom used to work for a business where she'd have to go on trips to sell things. So she was on one of these trips, and my dad and Sandy were at home alone. Sandy still hated my dad. My dad sat next next to her, and started petting her. She didn't pull away, but was growling. Then she realized that not everyone was out to get her. So then she was fine with my dad.
When I was born, my parents didn't know how she'd react to me. So they put me on a blanket on the ground, and waited to see what Sandy would do. Soon, Sandy found me on the floor, sniffed me a bit, and then laid down next to me, like, "My baby."
Sandy was such a great dog. My sister would often fall asleep, using her as a pillow. Whenever food would fall, she'd run across the room to where the food was still falling, and catch it midair. If food ever did hit the ground, it didn't matter what amount it was, it would be gone in 30 seconds or under.
Then she started getting sick, and having seizures and things like that. She was getting old. It's so strange to not have your dog recognize you. We had to start giving her medicine. But soon the doses were so large, that we decided to put her down. She died when she was 16. -
We have a ferret named Noodles. She's very sweet and loves to cuddle. She makes little nests in piles of old t-shirts that we give to her. She'll steal anything that she likes, such as toys or anything else she decides she wants (like when she kept stealing my rubber duckies), and buries them in her nests. But it isn't just limited to objects. Sometimes she'll come up to you and grab your finger with her mouth. If you let her pull you, she'll take you into her nest and lick your hand a bunch before curling up to it and napping with your hand. It's so sweet. She loves to give kisses. She makes the cutest and weirdest little noise called "dooking" when she's excited, which sounds like a quiet chuckling or chattering noise. When she's super excited, she jumps and dances around while dooking. When I'm napping, she'll come burrowing in the blanket and sleep next to me, usually licking my face and hands an annoying amount of times. She loves to give kisses and cuddle. One good thing about moving back home next week is getting to spend time with her. Even though she can be a b---- and loves to steal my things, she is the sweetest little girl.

i feed the stray cats in my neighborhood and there's a few i always remember: a more weighty black cat with green eyes that i named "cor-al" like from that spongebob episode,
a skinny kinda fiesty black cat i called papa john, and a fat white and grey cat i called puffy uwu
the only one who really lets me pet is cor-al as she's been here longest, and puffy who is too lazy to stop me. uwu
however papa john loves to scream if i'm 10 minutes lateer than usual. so i assume they all like me a little. uwu -
I used to have a big black cat with a stub for a tail named kizzy.kizzy was my mom's favorite cat that we had and my only ever female cat. Sadly we couldn't keep her because one day we moved further up the street from my old house and kizzy didn't want to come with us our vet said she'd come home when she was hungry. Then the people who moved in after us started Feeding her and she decided that they were her new owners then they left her like she was nothing and anytime we tried to get near kizzy she would attack us and she wouldn't eat the food we left for her.

Now I have a dog named Sparkles (don't judge, I was in 2nd grade). She's a miniature poodle. We got her when Sandy was still alive. She actually taught Sandy some not-so-good things, because she was trying to get back at us for having another dog in the house besides her. Even though Sandy was there first.
Then, after Sandy was put down, she miraculously started behaving.
She's not as quick to get food, and never eats all of it, except for if it's tuna. I will literally think the word 'tuna,' and she'll come running towards me all excited.
She loves sitting on top of the couch and staring out the window, barking at very suspicious leaves. She likes to have everyone in sight. Even the people in my Zoom meetings. She'll jump up on my lap, and stare at the people on the computer screen, and then go around the house to make sure she knows where everyone is, then will go back on my lap to stare at them again.
She is obviously a very protective 8 year-old dog. -
I once had a REALLY fat hamster, because when I was young I thought fat hamsters were really cute. His name was Brownie and he was an absolute madlad. He was a personality, for sure.
I currently have a very clever and funny cat, who taught himself how to open doors and screendoors. He's the most bizarre and hilarious cat and I love him so much. -
hi to those lf you who still have your pets id like your addresses for totally unrelated reasons 👀

Oh, and Sparkles will scratch any vertical surface when she's excited. Not horizontal ones, sometimes diagonal ones, but mostly vertical.
