Thread Topic: I have a really important question.

But how would you understand a language without knowing the English framework?
An example would be like a Japanese person who grew up strictly in Japan and only knows that sole language, and speaks to someone else who also only knows the native language. How would they know what they're talking about without English? Am I just being an ignorant American or...? Like holy f---, this is confusing. -
i don’t understand your question because it’s not like english was the first language, especially considering it has so many roots from other languages.

in my house my parents speak english and haitian creole so i learned to attribute sound combinations (so words) to the physical object/action instead of the language itself.
ex: if someone says fish in creole my brain doesn't go "pwason=fish= [fish image]"
my brain does
"pwason= [fish image]" -
But I'm saying how would you know the MEANINGS exactly? I asked someone else this question and they told me it's that people have learned language through symbolic means.

YEAH OKAY
Like all of a sudden I had this weird episode and that question popped into my head
It's insane... It's like I look at language entirely differently and it f---s with my head
OHHHHHH -
