why do people on tiktok try to make being alternative a political thing? claiming that in order to be alt in general, you need to have the political views. i didn’t really realize that they were wrong till like 2 weeks ago. the ONLY alternative subculture that is political is f---ing punk. majority of the “alt” people on tiktok dress like a mix of y2k, grunge, and indie. and hell, indie isn’t even a f---ing alt subculture. it’s a separate thing. granted i’ll admit i do dress the same as the y2k alt style a lot, but i also recognize that it’s borrowing from all other forms of alternative culture. however, them saying that being goth/emo/scene/kandi kid/visual kei etc. has to do with political beliefs is bulls---. literally f---ing look it up. the only one that deals with politics is PUNK. f---ING PUNK. and then “alt” b----es make blm and acab into a aesthetic. it’s not f---ing right. those are movements, not aesthetics. “hello kitty says acab” oh and you’re a poser :) shut the f--- up. it’s based on fashion and music, not politics. we get it, you hate trump, (i do too), but you need to shut the actual f--- up and realize it’s based on music and fashion and not politics.
i’m not even alt, i listen to the music a lot and grew up on i, but it makes me mad that people like that exist. -

ANOTHER THING THAT PISSES ME OFF WITH THE TIKTOK ALTERNATIVE CULTURE
they don’t know about real alt music. 100 gecs isn’t goth or emo or mall goth. (as much as i love them, they’re hyperpop, not anything i stayed before).

yeah the music genres have changed like emo, (sws, ptv, bvb, etc.) and pop punk (all time low, blink 182, avril lavigne, etc.) and i don’t wanna gatekeep!! but that’s actual alternative music to specific genres, not just tiktok alt :)
