Thread Topic: unpopular opinions

i hope seth didn’t say that knowing i have did lmao
-
i mean I'm open-minded to proof but as it stands there is none and it's widely considered among psychiatric professionals to not be real
pretty much every other disorder can be proven with science but not split personalities. even though DID is in the DSM-V currently, most professionals consider it to be in the same league as other Freudian bulls--- that cannot be proven. don't be fooled by Hollywood and other fictional forms of media. if proof comes then I'm open to my opinion changing but I'm sick of people on YouTube and Tumblr talking like they're "alters" for attention and sometimes financial profit. -
you don't have DID, you most likely have daddy/family issues and constantly undergo regression
misdiagnoses could and do happen -
fragmentations I can understand but the idea of wholly different and split identities just isn't real
-
i don’t have daddy/family issues. you can’t diagnose me or tell me i don’t have a certain disorder.
-
but yeah Seth you're right to some degree LOL
-
I'm not diagnosing you, but it's unlikely that you have that disorder. I'm only bringing up a possibility.

my boyfriend suffers from dissociation but he has never felt there was someone else in control, just like he watches himself do things sometimes. full on dissociative identity disorder, I feel, refers more to states of personality rather than full on different people. maybe it refers to a part of yourself that is fueled by anger, or one by protection, one by courage, or one by sadness...that present themselves stronger in situations that call for those parts. not so much the D.I.D. we see on tv and in movies

^ yes
-
i don’t go completely apeshít like there’s someone taking over my brain.
-
yeah that's what I was trying to say, like multiple personalities aren't real, like the ones portrayed in media
I really, really wasn't trying to invalidate anyone. it's just so many people fall victim to those pretending to have different personalities on the internet and real life, and wholly believe them. and it just isn't true -
yes, i agree with that then.
-
🥰 i can tell we've all grown when our conversations are so tame
-
Yeah, I'm also sure that dissociation is also a symptom of other mental illnesses, I just got confused/did not read enough/misunderstood
Sorry! -
