Thread Topic: I'm a bit of a perfectionist

when I learn new skills, I like to master them. I'm a fast learner so this usually happens quickly
sewing, knitting, baking
but learning piano is killing my soul -
Piano is tough, there's so much to learn
When did you start? -
last week
the worst part is that I used to be able to read music but I stopped practicing music in sixth grade so it's all nonsense to me now
I have to relearn everything
I'm enjoying it though, don't get me wrong
do you play? -
Ah, don't worry. I was never able to read music. I played by ear, pretty accurately until fresman year.
No, I play/ played violin so I'm familiar with the treble clef that piano uses frequently but I'm not at all familiar with the other clefs piano uses. I was always interested in it though. -
why'd you stop playing?
I don't even remember what those words mean ;; I used to play the bass (the one with the bow, not the guitar) but I quit because we didn't have enough money to keep me in the program -
A few people in the orchestra told me to. One of the viola players told me to kill myself because I sucked. (He was worse than I ever was) I was having a hard time keeping up in math and orchestra freshman year. I was a wreck.
That sucks. There wasn't a cost, because my town's orchestra had no money so all we did was concerts at the school. No trips really. Most of the time we'd just practice for no reason. All the money from the parents went to the band and choir. -
dude what the f---. >:( that's not cool.
I'm so sorry that happened to you, but I'm glad you got out of that situation
we didn't have any trips either. I lived in a very rundown and low-income area. our only concert was at the high school, which is also where we practiced because we had no designated orchestra room or building. there were only like five kids in orchestra because it was so expensive, but a lot of kids were in band. I don't remember if band cost anything. -
Sorry, I was makin a salad.
Yeah, I had to get out of there. I didn't want to, but I had to.
Ah, it's a shame it was so expensive :/ The school district had to get money to pay for supplies somehow I guess. I'm sorry to hear about that. Do you live somewhere better now? -
I would like some salad
-
mm, what kind of salad? .0.
I'm so sorry :( maybe one day you can pick the violin back up
yeah, the place I live now is 100% better. I live in a college town so the town is a lot wealthier and the streets are all brand new, and some of the crosswalks even speak to you...it's awesome. really whitewashed, though -
I dunno if I can give ya'll any salad through the interwebs
Maybe. I've been thinking about it. I still have Melissa. (Yes I named my violin, don't judge)
Man, that's fancy. Whitewashed? You mean like low diversity? If so that's sad. :( -
you can try
you should do it if it makes you happy. music is a good creative outlet.
yeah, there's mostly just white people here. my current school is soooo different compared to my old school, because my old school was predominantly African American and this one is soooo white. last year, my English class only had two black people in it and one Asian kid. it was bizzare.
