can characters that are robots/cyborgs/cybernetic beings be mary sues/gary stus? (yes I know machines can't have a gender because they are, again, machines but they are usually aligned with either male/female characteristics)
-
yes
-
...yea
any character that is like, unnecessarily or unironically perfect, like one that has hardly any flaws and many many strengths and/or a lot of people like them, even the bad guys, then... yeah... yeah, you've got yourself a good sue/stu there -
I already know what a Mary Sue is. I've seen many of your characters.
-
i haven't posted anything about any of my characters backgrounds in 9 months, i could have scrapped and/or changed a lot of things, lol try again
-
They could be, but it doesn't mean that can't be of use. Even robots/cyborgs/cybernetic beings can have weaknesses. Water being a very obvious one for some. xD
They can be broken if pushed too far. They can malfunction. They could easily be reprogrammed or controlled by others. Lots of things to make them imperfect. -
Would robots not having any type of emotions make them also imperfect?
-
I believe so. They would lack empathy, love, panic, fear, anger, happiness. They would be a shell made only to serve. Or they would exist solely to exist, with no purpose. If that were the case, it wouldn't react to the same triggers that humans do. Such a character can exist without being a Mary Lu/Gary Stu, but would be ultimately dull.
-
So from what I've received aren't we robots then?
-
Hmm.. No, not really. Some people do lack emotions, but it's usually a case of they don't know how to respond or react to situations. The emotions are there, they just don't know when/how to express them.
Most of us live with some purpose. We are free willing creatures. Although rules prevent morally corrupt actions, we still have the free will to do those things. We can do as we please, even if rules are in place. We may be punished for doing bad things, but we still have choices. As for people with mental illness, they have less control over their decisions - depending on the illness and its severity. -
Not really. We really only live for a "purpose" because we have different subjective perceptions of our existential meaning. They really is none, because the unknown thwarts such certainty of why we are truly here.
-
The fact that we have free will still remains. I suppose our "purpose" is what we decide it to be. I only believe in destiny or fate when it comes to finding a mate.
