Ian Fraser
17 years old, grade 12. Lives on the edge of the school district but still attends Maple Ridge. Lives with his father and younger brother, middle class family. In his schools ROTC program as well as the science club.
Believes strongly in improving the world, and taking care of others if you have the ability to do so. He thinks that the point of life is to improve lives for everyone, and has made doing so his goal. Hes an avid pacifist and becomes upset when discussing acts of violence, even if they dont affect him. He also thinks that you should try to tolerate all people, regardless of your own beliefs; So, even though he hates violence, he understands war and respects the armed forces. He also knows that NOTHING is black and white so he refrains from speaking about conflicts until he knows the whole story.
Ian has a lot of trouble asserting himself, which often leads to him getting talked over and cut off. Hes happy enough just to have friends though, and often ends up going along with the crowd. Hes a little defensive if people challenge his positions and doesnt think his choices should be questioned. Hes an over-all happy, calm person, unless feeling threatened.
Ian is your average teen- Hes on the shorter side, about 56 or so. His hair is brown and hes of an average weight and without much muscle mass. He wears the khakis and navy blue blazer of his school uniform, but his button up shirts are a multitude of colors. He comments on the fact that he has been scolded several times for not wearing a white one, but they have yet to enforce him changing. He wears bulky framed glasses and a silver wrist watch.
Ian lives with his father and younger brother, his mother travels with her new husband and doesnt have time for them anymore. He has a lot of opposing beliefs with his father and brother, but he tries to remain respectful towards them but sometimes he ends up snapping. His father doesnt know that Ian is in the science club, and he uses ROTC as an excuse.
Ian has moved around a lot after his father was given custody of his when he turned five. This is due to his dad being in the military and often getting transferred to different bases. However, three years ago his father got into an accident and became paralyzed from the waist down, so the settled in town. Ian wants to be a scientist, but his father wants him to join the army right out of high school, because its a family tradition. His younger brother is only a year behind him and hes already planning on joining the military, easily making him their fathers favorite. He doesnt understand why Ian gets so upset over the idea and they often argue about it.
Shane Lowe
18, senior at Maple Ridge High. Quarterback on the football team, has lived, in the town his whole life with his four younger siblings and parents. He is in his schools scholar program, as well as the journalism club. Higher class family, doesnt attend the private academy because his dad was the quarterback at MRHS, and he wants to continue that legacy.
Believes strongly in the pursuit of happiness. If you want something, to him, letting yourself be stopped can ruin your life. He hates how children and teens are pressured to make choices at such young ages, and often end up unhappy because they were made to decide what they wanted before they could possibly know. It also angers him how teachers make it seem like if you do poorly in high school, your life is over. He is an avid supporter of second chances and forgiveness. However, he thinks you should be careful about the people you surround yourself with and avoid negative peer pressure. He thinks that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but that doesnt always mean theyre right. It upsets his to see prejudice.
Shane is a very outspoken person who wont hesitate to insert himself in a conversation. Hes kind of aware of how rude this is, but at this point, its a habit. Hes popular and charismatic, with a sense of humor that makes it hard for anyone to take him seriously. Despite his carefree attitude and not-so-superb grades, hes actually extremely intelligent and thoughtful; its just hard to see past his stereotypical jock exterior. He has trouble controlling his volume because he used to visit his grandparents every day, weekend, and school break, and they were both going death. He gets upset when people scold him for it, kind of like a kicked puppy.
Shane is extremely tall and, well, built like a football player. He sports an undercut and a septum piercing, as well as black earrings. Hes about 65 or so, with broad shoulders. He wears the school uniform every day except for Fridays, when he wears his football jersey. He wears his blazer buttoned and even wears the optional tie, a matching navy blue one. He is reasonably attractive.
Shane has two younger sisters and two younger brothers- A supersized version of the perfect American family! His parents were high school sweethearts, but now they cant stand each other, but havent gotten divorced because of their children. Although Shane loves his family deeply, he often finds himself extremely stressed out. Because his dad works nights and his mother is a flight attendant, he often finds himself in charge of the younger children and the house. He tries not to complain about it much because he knows his parents cant help it, but it gets to him, especially with his football schedule and schoolwork to juggle. Many people think hes only in the journalism club because his freshman sister is, but she actually joined because he suggested it.
Shane has grown up seeing his parents hating their jobs, each other, and their lives. He made a promise to never end up like they did, which is why he so deeply believes in the pursuit of happiness. Hes going to university on a college scholarship, but his major will be Language Arts- He wants to write, and play football. He fully believes that he is capable of it.
Can't wait to write these two nerds being gay together on stage.
