It is important to start off light. You don't want your work to look messy. Prismacolors are softer than regular color pencils and they are made to blend. In order to have well-done blending, you need to start off light.

Take your time. Go over the same area with the same pressure. You'll soon realize that it gets darker as you go over and add more layers with the same pressure. Not to hard.

Using complementary colors darken a color. Don't use black. Black isn't a color.

Like I said before, if you want to darken a color, add a complementary color.

Making your own black is better than using the black prismacolor. It gives it more life, in a way, and it looks way better. There are many ways to make a dark color close to black. I use the ones listed the the picture
