conjugating plurals
most french items only require an 's' when you want to make it a plural, like le magazines or la fleurs
but there are irregular verbs
when a word ends in 'au', you add an x
like with bureau, it becomes bureaux, and tableau becomes tableaux
when a word ends in 'al', you take out the al and add aux to the end
for example, animal becomes animaux, and journal becomes journaux
nouns that end in s, x or z don't have to had anything changed when it comes to spelling, just the article. for example, un francais becomes des francais. un virus becomes des viruses. -
masculine and feminine pronouns
in French, almost everything is either a masculine or feminine noun. that's just how it is
when you're talking about masculine pronouns, you use the articles "le" and "un"
un means "a"
"le" means "the"
you can use either when talking about a masculine noun
feminine nouns use the articles "une" and "la"
"une" means "a"
and "la" means the
and when you're talking about multiple items, the une/la or un/le becomes "des", no matter if it's masculine or feminine
you can also use "les" when talking about multiple items if you want, if you're talking about the (whatever noun it is).
but you only use "les" when you're using a sentence which requires you to say "the"
like "the cats are so cute!" ("les chat mignon!")
but if you're not talking about the cats in particular, you use des
"des chat!" ("cats!") -
wait! scratch that
un and le are NOT interchangeable, my mistake
neither is une or la
they are not interchangeable
une/un is if you're talking about a (noun)
le/la is if you're talking about the (noun)
