  5= 6( q - 5) - 19
  
  Add 19 to both sides
  
  24 = 6( q - 5)
  
  Divide both sides by 6
  
  4 = q - 5
  
  Add 5 to both sides
  
  9 = q
  
  Done!

  You do it different then I do...
  We start like this:
  Take 6(q-5)
  Multiply 6 to both, bring down the rest of the equation
  6q-30-19
  
  Put -30 and -19 together
  5=6q-49
  
  Add 49 to 5
  54=6q
  
  Divide 6 from both sides
  
  9=q
