Read the entire How to Train Your Dragon book, then the first 40 pages of How to Be a Pirate until I could not stomach any more.
Gods Cressida Cowell writes worse than I do and that is saying something! I realize it's a kid's book, but I don't think the writing made it past the first draft.
I could tell some parts of the book made it into the movie, but it really was almost a totally different story. There were so many deus ex machinas that it wasn't even funny. But there were some funny lines and Hiccup did retain his sarcasticity. Toothless was disappointing, and I heard a rumor that there's some chick later on in the series named Camicazi that's supposed to be like Astrid...?
Moral of the story is, I love the movies much more.
