I only post WIPs (Works in progress) in the lounge though, most finished work stays in the workshop for me -

They're there for people to keep things separate. Sometimes people use them, sometimes they don't. One of the main reasons for the big change was because there were people complaining about the Rp'ers and Soapers. Even though some people didn't care, others did, and with the forum for Rp'ers and Soapers there were other forums that were suggested because people still wanted things separate (and of course to make GTQ fabulous with new things to post in).

there is a point for them, they're just under-utilized due to the lounge flocking
