Because they're all we have? They make you happy, remembering the good things. Actually, sometimes they make you really sad, but if they're happy memories, it's usually the sweetest kind of sadness, where you're crying, but it's alright. You don't know if anything good is going to happen in the future, but you can cling to the happiness you're assured, which is what's already happened.
