its a seasoning that makes the gumbo taste less like a soup and more like...gumbo

Okay, because apparently you're suppose to use milk, but I've never heard about that until recently, so I thought it was just my family that used water XD.

Oh. Um, forget the curry. Gumbo is a very think stew, kind of a sauce, too. Usually very spicy. -

ugh gumbo is a cajun soup, but it doesn't have the same taste. and no it does not have curry. its roux that you're thinking of. its what makes the 'gravy' less watery, since roux is pretty much all that goes into the 'gravy'
