Okay this 'mainstream' definition really bugs the crap outta me.
Mainstream is supposedly a word to describe popular music which is talentless. Well it's gotta start out SOMEWHERE hasn't it? It can't just pop outta thin air! It gradually becomes more popular. I mean Rage Against The Machine are No.1 in Britain right now. -
No, in the begining, like in the 60s, they just started and no one had ever heard the music before, and they liked, and so, the mainstream just stuck.
-
tongue NewbieRage Against The Machine reached number 1 in Britain because it was a charity thing they were doing, and also Britain and other First World countries are less mainstream-oriented and f---le than America.By f---le I mean we tend to just jump from one thing to another and kind of just forget about an artist or band once something else comes along. In Europe the people hold a higher level a loyalty and devotion to bands and artists.
Guns N' Roses, even down to just Axl, still sells out shows in Europe. And alot of the stuff that takes awhile to become popular in the States is usually big in other places- Kings of Leon were huge in Britain before they broke out here. I think America is starting to move more in the direction of Europe as far as music goes because there isn't much of a mainstream any more. I know people who hang out with the preppy kids who listen to A Day To Remember or Trivium or other bands that aren't really mainstream. There isn't much to be optimistic about in America, but what's happening in the world of music is exciting to me because of what it means for us. -
Fugly.
