Well, I've got sult of Dionysus from the Orion experience. It's controversial because the main singer is a raging pedo who doesn't regret his actions (YIKES) I usually listen to reuploads for that one.
On a WAAAAAAAAY more lighthearted note I love sodikken music which is a little controversial because people think their voice is annoying. Here's 2 of my faves

I LOVE Lovejoy, still! I feel like the drama went well over what should've been okay or acceptable, so I don't even feel that bad about it tbh lmao. I love their newest song it's literally so good, i've listened to nothing else for 2 days

^AJR isn't controversial because there's been no rumors/massive hate about them? (from what I've seen) Most people just think they're too theater-ish lol
TV Girl. It's male manipulator music, but so good (specifically Birds Don't Sing and Cigarettes Out the Window if you want music with the least amount of mAniPuLatOr sTuFF but still want good beats)

This is the opposite of what this is for, and idk if it's a hot take or if it's just a thing I thought was, but I can't stand Melanie Martinez. She just feels like she's romanticizing (or at least glorifying) mental illness in her songs, and obviously I respect vent songs (*cough* look at my music taste *cough*) but like, it feels kinda pick me in the way she describes mental illness as this fUn LiTTLe tHinG, but that could be a coping mechanism she's using and I'm being a rudey patootie lol
