JOB RESPONSIBILITY
There was a most important job that needed to be done,
And no reason not to do it, there was absolutely none.
But in vital matters such as this, the thing you have to ask
Is who exactly will it be who'll carry out the task?
Anybody could have told you that everybody knew
That this was something somebody would surely have to do.
Nobody was unwilling; anybody had the ability.
But nobody believed that it was their responsibility.
It seemed to be a job that anybody could have done,
If anybody thought he was supposed to be the one.
But since everybody recognized that anybody could,
Everybody took for granted that somebody would.
But nobody told anybody that we are aware of
That he would be in charge of seeing it was taken care of.
And nobody took it on himself to follow through,
And do what everybody thought that somebody would do.
When what everybody needed so did not get done at all,
Everybody was complaining that somebody dropped the ball.
Anybody then could see it was an awful crying shame,
And everybody looked around for somebody to blame.
Somebody should have done the job
And Everybody should have, But in the end Nobody did
What Anybody could have.

AND MY HEART SOARS
The beauty of the trees,
the softness of the air,
the fragrance of the grass
speaks to me.
The summit of the mountains,
the thunder of the sky,
the rhythm of the sea,
speaks to me.
The faintness of the stars,
the freshness of the morning,
the dew drop on the flower,
speaks to me.
The strength of fire,
the taste of salmon,
the trail of the sun,
and the life that never goes away,
they speaks to me.
And my heart soars.

MY MOTHER
My mother kept a garden,
A garden of the heart,
She planted all the good things
That gave my life its start.
She turned me to the sunshine
And encouraged me to dream,
Fostering and nurturing
The seeds of self-esteem.
And when the winds and rain came,
She protected me enough-
But not too much because she knew
I'd need to stand up strong and tough.
Her constant good example
Always taught me right from wrong-
Markers for my pathway
That will last a lifetime long.
I am my mother's garden.
I am her legacy,
And i hope she feels the love
Reflected back from me!

LIFE IS A JOURNEY
Life is but a stopping place,
a pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn somethings,
but never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
for some the journey slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
we'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
together with the lord

FEAR AT THE TOP
There seems to be a moment
when everything stands still.
Your heart begins to race,
as you look down the hill.
With the ski poles by your sides
as you try to lose your fear.
Making one more gut check
you hope it's not too severe
With the new snow blowing
as the wind goes whistling by.
You hope to make it down
as you turn to say goodbye.
Your adrenalin starts to pump
as you push off down the hill.
And all of your emotions build
into this heightened thrill.
Then as you reach the bottom
and your heart rate settles down.
Then you get this big smile
as you slowly turn around.

WHAT COUNTS IS TRYING
This is your first game, y child. I hope you win.
I hope you win for your sake, not mine.
Because winning's nice.
It's a good feeling.
Like the whole world is yours.
But it passes this feeling.
And what lasts is what you've learned.
And what you learn about is life.
That's what sports is all about? Life.
The whole thing is played out in an afternoon.
The happiness of life.
The miseries.
The joys.
The heartbreaks.
There's no telling what'll turn up.
There's no telling whether they'll toss you out in the first
five minutes or whether you'll say for the long haul.
There's no telling how you'll do.
You might be a hero or you might be absolutely nothing.
There's just no telling.
Too much depends on chance.
On how the ball bounces.
I'm not talking about the game, my child.
I'm talking about life.
But it's life that the game is all about.
Just as I said.
Because every game is life.
And life is a game.
A serious game.
Dead serious.
But, thats what you do with serious things.
You do your best.
You take what comes.
You take what comes
And you run with it.
Winning is fun.
Sure.
But winning is not the point.
Wanting to win is the point.
Not giving up is the point.
Never being satisfied with what you've done is the point.
Never letting up is the point.
Never letting anyone down is the point.
Play to win.
Sure.
But loose like a champion.
Because it's not winning that counts.
What counts is trying.
