I know it's difficult to adapt Alice in wonderland that being said I hate the time Burton version as most do. Tim Burton's style at a fundamental level is terrible for the story due to its Gothic tone. Also I hate the design of their jabberwocky it's just a random dragon. The best adaptation however happens to be that old animated Disney version in my opinion

the old disney will always be my favorite so I really hope this hits a nice middle ground without overdoing it

I think the first Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton was great as a movie, and while I don’t mind the dark plot it wasn’t a great adaptation. The original Alice in Wonderland is supposed to be light and whimsical. And yeah I don’t really get the point of the dragon-
I like the movie itself and I don’t think Burton butchered it he just had an interesting take on the story lol -
I think he did. He removed the whimsy by bringing in a chosen one plot, tried to make the mad hatter relatable (he's the MAD hatter for a reason) he set up that weird romance play with Alice and the mad hatter, and he made the jabberwocky some random dragon. The dragon known as the jabberwocky of from the Lewis caroll poem the jabberwocky and the actual creature is WAAAAAY creepier.
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!”
He took his vorpal sword in hand;
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
“And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”
He chortled in his joy.
’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
