Do stormtroopers have bad aim? The answer is: no.
They do not have bad aim. Despite many jokes and theories being made about them, their aim is actually.. accurate. If you’ve watched Star Wars: ‘a new hope’ you’ll remember obi-wan saying: ‘and these.. blast points, too accurate for sand people. Only imperial stormtroopers are so precise.’ Remember, obi was fought in the clone wars, so he would know.
This leads to the main question. Why DO people make fun of stormtroopers aim if it’s accurate? Here’s the answer. Grand moff Tarkin, while the millennium falcon was abord the Death Star, hid a homing device on the ship, in order for them to be led to the hidden rebel base. -
In order for this to succeed, they stormtroopers would have to scare off Han Solo and his crew, so Tarkin ordered the troopers to miss.

Yep. The stormtroopers weren’t allowed to remove them.

Well, it’s not their aim as much as the fact they weren’t able to take off the helmet
