flutterwing JuniorMy whiskers twitched as I scented out the mouse. It was creeping along the leaf-covered forest floor, almost asking to be killed and dropped proudly into the fresh-kill pile back at camp. My soft white paws padded softly on the crunchy, brown leaves. I came in for the kill and pounced. With a squeak, the mouse breathed its last breath. I picked up the kill in my jaws and walked along the forest. I thought about what my mentor would say, since this WAS my first kill. The mouse was pretty fat, and would probably feed three cats. Just then, I heard a rustle in the bushes.

flutterwing JuniorOut pounced Deathpaw, another apprentice she-cat.
"Hey, Featherpaw!" she mewed. "I caught a chaffinch today! I'm so excited!"
"Really?" I mewed back. "I caught a fat mouse."
We walked back together, prey in mouths. -
flutterwing JuniorA little while later, we arrived at camp. I looked around. It seemed... Different. Deathpaw and I trotted over to the fresh kill pile. It was empty. I dropped my mouse in and padded over to the apprentice's den. It was also empty. I walked quietly over to the medicine cat's den. Empty. Every den was empty, even the nursery.
