This is a little known book series. It takes place maybe 75 years in the future. Don't worry it is NOT si fi. Well the tithe government says the country is over populated and does not grow enough food to support the country. They pass a law limiting the number of children per family to 2.
In the first book a shadow child named Luke has been forced to stay inside away from windows. In his atic bedroom he discovers an open vent allowing him to see the world beyond his house. After he discovers this blessing he begins to understand his neighbors schedules. And then one day he sees another face peaking out of a window in an empty house. The family who lives there has two boys, but the face he sees is that of a girl.
