Someone once told me
that to love openly hearted
your heart had to be broken first.
first came the cracks
that best friends duct tape closed
Next is the pieces
that slowly tear away,
and hang dimply
but refuse to fall off.
It's the past memories
that you wish you could
just burn away...
Then there are the scars
that always hurt the most
and rip the heart in two
when that happens
and it sews itself together
the pieces are never really
connected again.
But when your suddenly heart breaks
and your protective cover smashes
to the point that
there is no protection anymore
there is no vulnerability either,
now.
Just that deep urge
to fill that empty hole.
Slowly you do,
but letting people in,
and wrapping your love
and heart around them
so you'll never hurt again
Because you can't break something
that is already broken. -
