Darkened eyes bleed out their sight.
What is left for them to behold?
I've seen everything I thought I would never have to.
Everything that ever haunted my subconscious.
Is it wrong to be happy for the sudden blindness that ails me?
Certain that it is,
I carry on.
Drag my feet.
Feel my fingertips weighing me down.
Smile for me, smile so I can breathe again.
Smile so I can go stop it all.
Let the shadows taste my flesh,
my spirit,
my dulling soul.
Let them lick away the outermost layer,
and then run before they can sink their teeth in.
I can only pretend to smile,
bending this shattered dream into a rainbow to hold to my lips,
and feign sanity.
Feign reason and joy.
Irony, is it?
The only way for me to have a real smile upon my face
would be to carve yours from your mouth and stitch it to my own.
And of course, by then, any reason to smile would be dead.
Laugh now,
laugh innocently.
A joke, my dear.
A joke.
It's easier to serve a blind master,
one who does not inquire on the strange darkness of your eyes.
The absense of light.
The absense of life.
Who does not ask what you do aside from tend to them.
Who does not realize that your whole life was spent away
living for the shadows. -
