Lindsey woke up early that morning and walked over to her window. It had rained the past night, as it did often where she lived. She quickly got showered, got dressed, slid on her shoes, and brushed her teeth. She slid down into her couch and opened her laptop. A message in big letters appeared on her screen. "I KNOW YOUR SECRET!" It said. She nervously turned on the TV and watched the news to see the weather. Probably just a joke, she thought, thinking of the message. Lindsey walked out the door of her house, the thoughts of the message almost gone. She had fixed her laptop with her awesome computer skills, and it was back to normal. She was so lost in thought she bumped into her good friend, Lloyd.
"Hey Lloyd," she said. "What's up?"
Lloyd yawned. "Oh, nothing much, Lindsey. I hate early mornings." Lindsey shrugged and continued walking, Lloyd walking with her.
I woke up and laid in bed a little longer, bored already. I walked to the bathroom brushed my teeth and got ready for school, Ready to be even more bored. Then when I finished, I got to the bus stop and waited for the bus, Because I was too lazy to walk there like I was supposed too.
The bus took FOREVER, so I was like… 4 minutes late for class or whatever. I rolled my eyes, and sat down, In math class with Mrs. Griecci. We were learning how to divide integrals and colony decimals and other stuff I didn’t understand at all.
Lindsey walked up to the school with Lloyd and turned to him. He had English class and she had math.
"See you after school?" she asked. He nodded, then spoke before leaving. "It's a shame we don't have any classes together, isn't it?"
Lindsey nodded too, and she walked through the halls to the math classroom. She got to her class, and ducked underneath a paper airplane, dodged some rubber bands, wiped a suspiciously wet piece of paper off of her messenger bag and sat down in the back of the classroom.
After some part of the lesson Mrs. Greicci asked "Is there any questions?" And someone answered.
"Ugh" everyone moaned. After she explained for sometime, I blurted out "WHAT?!?!?!?!" In confusion. Mrs. Griecci said; "Weren’t you listening, Ozzy?" in the stupid correcting voice of hers.
Ugh, the boys in this class are monkeys! Lindsey thought. She looked up at the front of the classroom and saw Mrs. Griecci explaining a problem that to her, was super easy. One guy had one last rubber band and aimed it at Ozzy, one of Lindsey's classmates. "Ozzy, duck!" she shouted, and just as it flew at Ozzy, he turned. It him in the middle of his forehead.
"AH! Dude!" I yelled holding my forehead. The guy who flung the rubber band said "how’s your A.D.D now, bird nest?" And all his dumb friends laughed with him. I hate when I they make fun of my hair, and me not paying attention "OH SHUT UP IDIOT, I'M BETTER THEN YOU!" And Y 'know what? Mrs. Griecci said?
"Ozzy, this is the 5th time you haven't understood something all week and its only Wednesday. You need special help and I'll inform your parents.â€
I sighed, So annoyed with Jason.
"Oh, great," Lindsey muttered, looking at the rubber band. It was black with purple stripes. It was a vampire's rubber band of doom, which doomed the victim unless he slayed the vampire the band belonged to. She slipped it into her pocket, making a mental note to find out who it belonged to.
"Um... ma'am," Lindsey said to Mrs. Griecci. "May I take Ozzy down to the office to make sure his parents get called?"
"Yes, Miss Bree, you can. Thanks you," she said. As Lindsey took Ozzy down to the office, she confronted him about the rubber band.
I realized We had to go to chemistry next, another thing I suck at. Last time I went to chemistry ON TIME, I almost blew up freaking the class. Lindsey stood in front of me.
"But uh, we have to go to chemistry! If I don't go I'll get an F!" But then thinking it over I said out loud "I'll get an F anyway you look at it…..." She dragged me outside anyway.
Do you know who this belongs to?" Lindsey asked.
"Yeah, that jerk, Jason," Ozzy muttered, rubbing his forehead.
"No, you don't get it. This rubber band belongs to a..." Lindsey was interrupted by a student. This kid, the new kid interrupted, But soon we got back to our conversation.
"A what? Ass-face?" I started snickering. She glared at Ozzy. Lindsey was about to continue, but Ozzy pulled her to their next class chemistry
I ran to our class.. of course, I was late.
Ms. Daniels said; "OZZY! YOUR LATE AGAIN!"
"Lindsey, I can understand Ozzy but not you! Ozzy Is a bad influence on you!" I sighed, Dumb teachers. Every had a lab partner, except me and Lindsey. I had to be her partner, so we took a seat, And waited.
"Hmm... You fail at chemistry?" Lindsey muttered. "Well, today, you'll get an ‘A‘."
She started mixing chemicals and Ozzy barely had to do any work. "There, is that correct?" she said, removing her goggles.
Ms. Daniels dismissed class early due to Lindsey's awesome work. After getting many high-fives, she walked outside.
Lindsey grabbed Ozzy and pulled him out of the classroom.
"As I was saying, that was a vampire's rubber band of doom," Lindsey said.
“what the?" “Are you kidding me!? That is so stupid!"
I started looking at Lindsey and walking away, when Jason tripped me. Of course. I hit the linoleum floor so hard my mouth was bleeding. At the sight of blood, Lindsey's fangs popped out. She tried not to breathe, and covered her mouth.
"Ozzy, are you okay?" she asked.
"NO!"
I yelled in pain. I wiped it on my sleeve, luckily my teeth weren’t out.
"Ouch! I am SO going to kill that guy!" I kicked the wall.
"Ozzy, stop kicking the wall," Lindsey said, pushing Ozzy away from the wall gently. "You won't kill the guy." -
“We go Home. Well, Er, My home." I walked with Lindsey, To my house, And then went Inside, It was a mess as usual, and I knew she was going to ask, ‘Where’s my parents?’. Lindsey walked inside, and looked around. She walked over to Me. "Ozzy, I'm going to go to my house real quick, kay?" She wasn't about to comment on the house being messy or the absence of parents. "Actually, I'll wait for you. I'm gonna go try to find some wi-fi."
"Okay.“ I said, Absently. I just stood there for a second, And I walked upstairs.
Lindsey walked outside, only to be greeted by two slayers. "Oh, crap," she muttered, dropping her bag. "Not the best time for them to be here."
One of them smiled evilly, and the other Lindsey recognized as Lloyd. "Lloyd?" Lindsey asked, her throat dry. He shifted his feet and his partner charged at Lindsey, a stake in his hand. She grabbed his arm, broke it like a toothpick and kicked him in the chest, making him fly back at a tree. Lloyd gasped and pulled his partner toward their car. Lindsey only stared at him, a dude she'd thought was her friend.
I came outside, Because of the noise.
"What the fhawk (Aod moment) just happened?" I ran back to my room, grabbing my gun, and ran back down stairs. “Gun. I win.â€
It's okay, I dealt with it," Lindsey said. "After all, even an experienced slayer is an easy target. Are you ready? I need to head to my house now. Don't bring that gun. It'll only cause trouble."
"Um….. Are you nuts?“ I frowned. “Then again, I have.... nevermind, my past is long, You might not like it." But somehow I guessed she would ask some time soon.
"Huh? I can bet my past is longer," Lindsey said, then added, "Don't ask how long." She looked up at the sky, sighed, and started walking to her house.
"Being 17 isn't easy." I sighed, and looked at her and followed.
Lindsey arrived at her house, only to notice that slayers had trashed it. "Ugh. When will they quit?" she asked. She walked upstairs and threw some important things into her bag. She walked downstairs and finally checked her emails. "Probably should drink one before we go. Don't want to take any chances," Lindsey said, and she grabbed something out of her fridge that looked like a juice pouch and rushed into the next room.
"Drink what?" I looked and face palmed. “Oh," I went to drink it, of course.
"NO!" Lindsey shouted, shoving it away from his mouth just before he drank some. "I only meant that I should drink some. I don't want to bite anybody I care about, do I?"
"Um okay... Y’ know, You could of told me!" I shook my head. “Are we going back to my house or not?"
"Uh, sure. Sorry about that," Lindsey said. "Okay, let's go back to your house."
I walked down the roads back too my house and invited Lindsey to my room, which was messier then the rest of the house .It had bottles of who knows what on the floor, and even an ash-tray, which I didn't know that was there.
“Oh, um okay," Lindsey said. She moved over to the window and looked outside. "I haven't been since what seems like forever... " She sighed, deep in thought. "How great it'd feel…..“
“What the!?" I said kicking my shoes off and logging on to my computer. I looked down, And picked up something. "Damn, how do I end up with all these cigarettes on my floor? I swear I throw them out the window after I....." I looked back at Lindsey. "Oh, yeah, your there….â€
"Hmm... what?" Lindsey asked, still in thought. What she was thinking of must've made her cheerful, because she seemed to long taller. Then she realized she was levitating and stopped.
"I want to go outside and fly so bad..."
"Why?" I looked at the bottle on the floor next to my foot. "WTF?!!? I don't even drink Beer!"
"I drink Sco...." I face palmed. “Damn I keep doing that!"
"Eh, I don't care. Right now, all I can think of is flying and being free. It's tiring trying to act... normal, especially when you're a vampire," Lindsey said. She left Ozzy's room and in a few minutes, she was levitating outside his window. "Hi, Ozzy!"
":O, Wtf?" I walked down stairs and got a drink.
"Lindsey, I have to tell you something, C'mon in here…. If you don‘t mind…" -
"Fine," Lindsey said, floating into the house. "What is it?"
She gently touched the ground and looked at Ozzy, giving him her full attention. “Well, About me."
"Well this is my life."
"My dad was an alcoholic and he hated my mom when she was sober, So both of my parents were drunk all the time. My brother killed himself, And almost killed me. So I never got into school until 5th grade when my uncle put me in a private school. That failed epically. So I left and went to Washington. Then that got boring, but I was broke. I went back to school and had a job in 7th grade. I wasn't exactly and ‘A+’ student, I was more like a ‘D’ average. I got in with the "bad" kids, and well, I was an alcoholic as of late 7th grade. Then, Coke came in. I wasn't good, and just last year I was clean."
"And That’s just pt.1. Erm, Sorry if that was confusing."
"Oh," Lindsey said. "I would tell you about my life, but I think it'd take too long."
She looked at Ozzy and said, "Which reminds me, if you ever need a history tutor, you can ask me, even though I'm two years younger than you. I well, lived it. Most of it, anyway."
"Umm...about that." I started.
"I kind of need a tutor.…†I frowned.
"What do you need help with?" Lindsey asked.
I looked at her like what she said was a joke.
"Everything,"
"Oh," Lindsey said, looking surprised. "Where to begin then?"
"Well, Our first class if Math, sooo…." I said not looking at her.
"Okay, do you have your textbook?" Lindsey asked, then she realized they'd left school without any of their stuff. "Uh, I just realized you don't. I'll go get one from school."
"What's a text….. Er- book?"
Id never used of one before, I mean I just went from class to class, I never wrote stuff down, or whatever a Text-book was for. There was a breeze through the house and a second later Lindsey came back with a book. "Here. The math book for our class."
I Looked at her puzzled.
"What’s a text-book for?" I looked into her eyes, And then at the book. Lindsey looked down and opened the book. "It has your math problems in it, and if you read some parts of it, you'll learn how to do the math it tells about," she pushed the open book toward Ozzy.
“Um... Lindsey... I'm dyslexic.â€
"I can't read... Stuff" I looked at Lindsey, kind of disappointed. I felt stupid, and confused. "That's okay. And Don't feel stupid," Lindsey said. She started reading the textbook and demonstrated some of the problems on paper. "See?"
I did some work, And I answered the questions, I think. "Is that correct?"
"Yeah, that's correct," Lindsey said, looking over the paper. Lindsey started explaining but I started staring out the window.
Lindsey stopped explaining and looked at Ozzy. Then she looked out the window. "What is it?"
"What?“ I said getting from my Spaced out state. "Um...sorry I, kinda space out, That’s why Jason called me A.D.D….."
"Oh, don't mind him. I'll get him back later at the next family reunion," Lindsey said. She went back to explaining the problem.
I looked back out the window, And closed it. I needed to pay attention. I couldn't fail again in math. "So……… you carry this, here?"
"Yep. See, you're not that bad at math," Lindsey said encouragingly.
“Well I guess I didn't care because I thought I would fail. I mean of course I failed last year since I was drun.…†I trailed off, I got up and went down stairs. Lindsey got up and looked outside. It was getting late, she would have to head home soon.
When I came back up I said, “I know you have to go home soon, But, Lindsey…. “ I didn't finish. She knew.
"Oh, yeah, right," Lindsey said, Reading his mind.
"Can, I come, with.... you, too your house?" I mumbled.
“Uh, Sure.†Lindsey said. "If you want."
I stumbled to my feet.
"Um…Lindsey ... Uh.. Oh, Nevermind."
I stumbled to my bed, Mumbling to myself, So quiet no one else could hear.
"Ok, see you tomorrow," Lindsey said. She stood up and walked out of Ozzy's house. She started walking home quickly. She opened her door and walked into her house. Ugh, it's still trashed, I'll clean it up tomorrow, she thought.
"AW MAN!" I yelled. "I forgot to follow her! Crap!" I got so mad, I just took a bottle to my head. Of course it started bleeding and I rushed downstairs. I was loosing it quickly. I rushed to Lindsey’s House and passed out in the door way.
Lindsey heard someone at her door. She ran to it, tensed to punch the person in case they were a slayer. She opened the door to see Ozzy on the ground, unconscious.
"Ozzy!" she said startled. She rushed back into her house to grab her phone, she couldn't help with the blood loss. She quickly called an ambulance. -
I laid there, Sensing something and I mumbled. “Mmmm?â€
I thought you were dead," Lindsey said, and she rushed into the house. A few seconds later she came back with a wet washcloth and started to wipe the blood off of Ozzy's face. "What happened?"
"Ughh.." I couldn't say anything, I was in to much pain.
Before Lindsey could ask another question, the ambulance pulled up. Lindsey looked up at it, realizing her face was slightly streaked with tears. She watched as two men pulled out a stretcher and moved Ozzy onto it. They wheeled him into the ambulance and Lindsey followed them. One glanced at her, but let her stay. She looked down at Ozzy as they started helping him.
" A Bottle,“ I managed to say under my breath.
"Uh, what?" Lindsey asked. She realized what he meant, and told him to stop talking.
"What'd he say?" one man asked. Lindsey looked at him. "Nothing."
Ozzy, I read your mind. That was a stupid thing to do. I'll make an explanation, since you're under 21, Lindsey sent the thought to Ozzy.
And suddenly I knew.... Crap, I need vampire powers.
Yeah, I know, what you expect from a ‘D’ average person? What? An ‘A+’ idea?
Lindsey rolled her eyes. You shouldn't have powers. Not unless you could prove you'd be responsible. And I didn't mean it that way. I meant, that since your under 21, you shouldn't be drinking! You'll get some questions that you won't want to answer, Lindsey thought. She suddenly came up with an idea. I've got it! she thought.
I didn't tell you all of the story, there’s, uh... Some extra to the cake slice. But uh...at least I was able too...Nevermind. And this better be good…
I looked up at the hospital worker, Everything was so blury.
Tell me later, when you're not so close to death.
"So, what happened?" one of the hospital workers asked.
"Er," Lindsey said, preparing her story. "It was just a little bit ago that we were walking along on of those stone fence things," Lindsey "And he fell down onto the pavement, and he must have bad karma, because he fell on a broken beer bottle. We managed to get to my house, even though he was quickly losing blood. But we didn't have a phone. When we got to my house he fainted. That's what happened."
Good enough, Ozzy? Lindsey thought/asked.
I do have bad luck, After All, I get an F on all my ELA papers.
"Umm hmmm" I managed to answer quietly. But is that karma? Did you do something wrong?
The man didn't look completely convinced, but he went back to his work. Then a woman wit brown hair turned to Lindsey and Ozzy. "At 9 p.m. at night?" she asked.
"Er, yep!" Lindsey managed to say.
"Umm hmmm" I said in reply again. I was getting back to it now.
"We're, friends." And the lady looked at me like I was insane. I probably am.
Shhhh.....Don't say anything else, I got this. -
"Teenager? Kid? Adult? Okay, maybe not adult yet." I paced back and forth a little, Drinking soda, The voice still nagging at the back of my head.
"Any of them. Okay, kid, I guess," Lindsey said. "Don't let the voice nag you. It's stupid."
Lindsey sat up straight and crossed her legs on the couch. She looked a lot like a little kid.
"Yeah, Dad was stupid."
"Okay, so once I played the trombone, but I didn’t play good, so my Dad threw the trombone out the window in one of his drunk rage incidents." I rolled my eyes. “And Then he made me drink his Vodka." I face palmed. “ I ended up with Vodka poisoning. Lovely, No? No."
"Well, that's sad. He should have respected your playing, even if it was horrible," Lindsey said. Then she realized something. "Hey, would you like me to help you be sober? I can keep all of it here, vampires don't drink any of that, or soda." I laughed at the soda part.
“Umm...sure? I mean it's probably all expired anyway. Can booze expire?"
"Hmmm.. probably not…"
"I don't know. I never had to worry about that," Lindsey said. "You seem a lot happier today."
“Huh, Yeah, I guess so," I stood up, and leaned against the door. "Follow me, Please?"
"Uh, sure," Lindsey said, getting up and slipping on her Converse. -
manders Novicethis is so long ozzy ....but good XD
-
LOL. Those were only 16 pages.
I ran to my house, Grabbed my back-pack and walked down a dirt path through the woods onto a lake grounds, Only I knew it was there.
Lindsey followed him, wondering where he was going.
I sat on a bench that I built and laid a map down on the table, I nailed it down.
"Look"
“It’s a map of the states“, and I pulled out two plane tickets, to Colorado.
"Plane tickets?" Lindsey said, literally hovering. She stopped and sat down on the bench. "Sorry."
"What?" I said, Confused. “I… they.... Lindsey. I...I’m," I sighed, Caught up in my words. "I can't use them, Duh, Their two years old. I was going to tape them to the map.â€
"Oh, I didn't care," Lindsey said, laughing a little. "In fact, I would've refused to go on a plane. It would feel weird to be in such a small space, and to be in the air, but not in control, and I would've been on edge the entire time. Anyone could be a slayer."
I taped them to it, and I circled several locations on the map, and taped a few more tickets to it.
Lindsey watched as he taped the tickets to the map
"Colorado, Nevada, Hawaii, Canada, Russia, and..." I taped one last ticket "…Connecticut! All set."
Lindsey looked at the tickets. She looked at the map. She pointed at the west coast.
"I think that place looks cool, don't you?" she asked. "I've heard that it's nice there."
“Yeah" I said not really paying attention, I had a feeling she would ask about the tickets.
Lindsey smiled. "You have a lot of tickets on that map," she said, looking down at it.
"Yeah, because I missed all the flights while I was passed out somewhere!" I said harshly.
"Oh, well that's too bad," Lindsey said. "Why did you want to go to each of those places?"
I didn't answer the question because I didn't want to tell her the reason, but I had too. So I asked, "Do I have...too tell?" and frowned. "It’s Kinda, Stupid and Well.….."
"Not if you don't want to," Lindsey said. "I'm sure that if you did, though, I wouldn't find it stupid."
"Okay, Well... Y' know, I was A drinker," I started. “And well... My friends were too…" I kept going sentence by sentence.
"And that’s where we tried to escape to drink, In a state where it was legal….." I ended sadly.
"That's not stupid. It's a little unsmart of you, but not stupid," Lindsey said.
"Uh... well, I ain't the brightest light bulb in the...."
"Wait...What’s after that?" I tried to focus. "…. In the..... In the? In the?" I just thought and thought, Then again it wasn't going to get me anywhere, I couldn't think straight, I keep thinking about something else.
"What?" Lindsey asked.
“Nothing" I said, Looking around the lake. I traced Colorado.†I wish I could of gone…..â€
“Why can't you still? I could help. I can't believe I'm actually thinking of helping this way, but I could make- er, I mean, convince the people at the airport to let you on. It's not that hard," Lindsey said, considering what she offered.
“But the tickets expired!" I said thinking about how much fun I would've had. I was sad, again. Another felling I would've drowned out with alcohol.
"Uh, you wouldn't need tickets. I've never tried to control someone before, I never have wanted to. But I will if it helps a friend," Lindsey said, standing up. "Would you mind if I try? If I'm successful, you can go to Colorado."
"Well, I’d like you to come" I said, Contemplating that. “I want you to come with me, to help me." -
Awesome.
-
Well, I would come. I think," Lindsey said. "But may I try now?"
"Y' know what Lindsey? I couldn't live without you. You’ve done so much for me, I’d fall apart without you."
"Okay, Lets try this. Hold on, We gotta pack if we're going on a plane to Colorado!"
Iran to my house to pack.
"Uh, okay, I was going to practice, but, nevermind!" Lindsey said, using the vampire speed to quickly get to her house. She ran to Ozzy's house a few seconds later, her bags all packed.
As I was on my 1st bag Lindsey was done.
"Uhm.....Lindsey? Can you pack my bags too?....." I asked.
"Er..." Lindsey said, "What do you want packed?"
“These clothes in the Drawer and my Hat" I said going into the kitchen. I grabbed a Chicago guide and went back upstairs, To Lindsey.
Lindsey quickly packed everything he said and rushed out of his room with the bags.
"Here, I helped, so you kinda owe me," she said, concentrating hard. "I'm gonna try controlling people. If you start floating, don't freak out. It'll mean that it worked."
“Um...that’s creepy, But okay, And, Uh yeah I do owe you, And......" I started floating like she said I would. I felt weird. "Um...Yeah, I owe you…"
"Cool! It worked!" Lindsey said as she gently made him float down to the ground. "There, thanks for helping me practice. Now I know I'll succeed when I trick the people. You don't owe me, anymore."
"Uh... Okay?" I walked down the road too the airport, In 1 hour we boarded the plane.
I had my eyes fixed at every bottle of champagne that passed. But I tried not to care, And I got a seat right next to Lindsey, which helped Me.
"That was easier than I thought," Lindsey muttered happily. She leaned back in her chair, she had made their flight first class, and she was loving it.
"Wow, It’s so nice first class." When we landed we ended up at the sparks hotel, Which we got in FREE because of Lindsey. The room was beautiful! It was white and the beds were wonderful, I got the one by the night stand, there was a gold lining, and..…. a bottle of vodka?
