A quick author's note first!
So yes, this is another Harry Potter fan fiction. This was intended for girls, but if you're a guy, I won't stop you from reading this whole thing. Just read if you want. There is no smut. There. Okay? I don't write that sort of stuff. And the original idea belongs to J. K. Rowling, I don't own Harry Potter, Hermione or anyone else in the original series. But I own (y/n) Hope Lupin and other characters and things I made up. Last thing, I would prefer it if you don't copy my ideas. Please don't. Okay, so that's pretty much everything, if you've got questions, please just comment below, and I will also be sending chapter by chapter in the comments!

1. THE WIZARDING WORLD
(y/n) Hope Lupin had been taken in by the Grangers. Found crying in the wreckage by the police, the Grangers volunteered to help foster her until any of her proper guardians were found.
The Wizarding World had gone complete chaos when (y/n) couldn't be found anywhere near where the incident had happened.
In fact, Remus John Lupin, (y/n)'s uncle, had completely lost his mind. He was always popping into the Ministry every hour ("Where's my niece?!") and pacing back and forth. He had knocked on almost every door, stuffing photos of his niece in their faces ("Have you seen her?!") and had become so hectic that he practically scared people back into their houses, making them slam the door locked in his face.
"Remus, I assure you, the girl must be safe somewhere in a Muggle household," Professor Dumbledore said as the madman burst into his office. "Can't we just ask the Muggle police?!" Remus said frantically. "That's my niece! My dear brother's daughter! I can't leave her in the Muggle world!" Dumbledore shook his head solemnly. "It was the local police that had got to her, not the Muggle authorities. The Ministry is still on search for her. However, the least that was found in the wreckage after the Muggles had left was this," Dumbledore said, fishing a small brooch out of his pocket. "But isn't that the Lupin heirloom?" Remus said. "I thought it would have been destroyed in the wreckage." Dumbledore shook his head. "Powerful one, that is. It can't be destroyed so easily." Remus carefully took the brooch in his hands. It was a small oval shaped pin, with an opal in the middle, surrounded by zicornia diamonds. "Keep it safe," Dumbledore said, nodding to Remus. Remus nodded, then hurried out of the room, looking much calmer.
(y/n) was now five years old. She did know a few things. First of all, she was fostered. Second of all, her parents were dead. Third of all, all of this was too much for her to take in at such a young age. She had grown up calling Mr and Mrs. Granger 'aunt' and 'uncle'. But Hermione was more of a sister than a cousin. Mr and Mrs. Granger had tried to explain things the best they could. "Your parents-" Mr. Granger said, trying his best to make accurate gestures. "-Died. Explains your scar-" Mrs. Granger gestured towards (y/n)'s lightning-bolt shaped scar on her wrist. "-Police came after-" Mrs. Granger got a flash light and began clicking it on and off, making a siren noise. "-And we fostered you. Your guardian will come one day-" Mrs. Granger began using sign language to spell out 'GUARDIAN', as she couldn't think of how to act as a guardian. "-and pick you up. Does that make sense?" (y/n) stared at them blankly. Hermione only watched her parents as if they had gone completely mad, and also had a blank face. None of it made sense. "I don't think it's working, Jeanne," Mr. Granger said, almost sadly. "Me neither... I heard there's this crazy madman knocking on doors, looking for his niece. It might be him that's looking for her, but he seems foreign and doesn't know what a 'contact' is, so we'll have to wait for him knock on ours," Mrs. Granger said.
A week passed. (y/n) had begun going back to playing with Hermione, clueless of her past. Or what might happen. Mr and Mrs. Granger had begun to start waiting at the door, in case this 'madman' happened to come along. And he did. "JEANNE!" Mr. Granger yelped as he saw a figure come along the path. "JEANNE! I THINK IT'S HIM!" Mrs. Granger practically ran to the door. (y/n), confused, quickly ran to the door as well, Hermione joining her. "HAVE YOU SEEN MY NIECE?!" A frantic voice was immediately heard, not even a greeting. (y/n) peeked around the corner, to see that the voice belonged to an orange-ish haired man, with dark shadows under his eyes, as if he had been up all night. "Your niece?" Mrs. Granger spluttered. She had certainly not been expecting him to be as mad as this. "Yes. (h/c) hair like my sister in law- hang on, she's practically a mini version of my sister in law, and she's got eyes like my brother. Wide, lively and (e/c)." Mrs. Granger turned to (y/n). "You mean her?" She nudged (y/n) forward gently. The man examined the small girl. It was intimidating.
Then he broke into sobs like a small boy.
"Th-th-this i-i-is my n-niece! I h-haven't s-s-s-seen y-you f-f-f-f-for s-so l-long! Your parents h-h-have f-faced a t-t-terrible accident! I-I'm s-s-sorry!" The Grangers stared at the man, wide eyed, as he went howling away. "Auntie Jeanne? What does he mean?" (y/n) asked, unsure of everything. Neighbours were beginning to come out to see the big fuss. "Er- well, it's a bit complicated," Mrs. Granger said. Hermione already had seemed to understand everything. "But I don't want (y/n) to go!" She whined. "She's my only playmate!" Mr. Granger looked at his daughter sympathetically. "I'm sure you'll see her again soon," he said. "Er- sir, is it possible if we could arrange some time to have a playdate for these two?" The man immediately stopped sobbing. "A what?" Mrs. Granger leaned over to Mr. Granger, and whispered in his ear, "I told you, he's foreign." Sighing, Mr. Granger said over-exaggeratingly, "A playdate... Something for friends to meet up." The man nodded. "Oh yes... A... Er- playdate." Mr. Granger quickly remembered why the man was here in the first place. "Oh yes, and sir... Did you check with the authorities if you could take her back?" Mr. Granger asked. The man looked puzzled for a moment.
"The authorities?"
"He's foreign," Mrs. Granger reminded Mr. Granger. "Oh yes... Um... The authorities... Yes I did check with them. Here," he said, handing them a small piece of crumpled paper. It read:
BRITISH DEPARTMENT OF CHILD CARE
To take child back to proper guardians, fill out the form to confirm:
Child name: (y/n)
Child middle name: Hope
Child surnane: Lupin
Guardian name: Remus
Guardian middle name: John
Guardian surname: Lupin
Head of the British Department of Child Care agrees to let (y/n) Hope Lupin be taken back by Remus John Lupin.
"Well, that settles it then," Mr. Granger said. "(y/n)'s going home." (y/n) stared at her foster family with sad (e/c) eyes. Hermione was sobbing too, since (y/n) had already seemed like a sister. "I'm sure we'll meet again," Mr. Granger said. "Yes... We'll pop by now and then if we happen to pass by. I say... How about next Sunday then?" Mr. Granger nodded. "Yes, sir-" "Please, it's Remus," Remus said, holding out a hand. Mr. Granger gladly shook it. "Very nice, Remus. I'm Jean and this is my wife, Jeanne. And this is Hermione, our daughter," Mr. Granger said, introducing his family. Hermione waved hello timidly.
The Grangers waved goodbye. (y/n) learnt to call Remus just by his first name, no need to add 'uncle' or anything. "Now, (y/n)," Remus said. "We'll be taking the Knight Bus home." He then shoved his hand in his pocket and pulled out a stick. It was sixteen inches long, and looked as if it was made of oak and had patterns on it. "What is that?" (y/n) asked, curious. "A wand," Remus said. "That's a wand?" (y/n) said, completely doubting her sight. Before Remus could say anything more, a bang was heard in the distance and a thriple deckered purple bus came speeding down the road, then stopped abruptly in front of the pair.
The doors slid open, and a man covered in pimples stood out. Most likely the conductor."Welcome to the Knight Bus, emergency transport for any stranded witch or wizard-"
"I'M A WITCH?!"
The conductor looked down to see the young (y/n). " 'Course you are," he said, as if it was obvious. "Otherwise you wouldn' be seein' us now, would you?" (y/n) stared at them, blank faced. The conductor turned to Remus. "Remus!" He said cheerfully, as if Remus was an old friend. "I didn't expect to see you so soon!" His face suddenly fell into a shocked expression, and he kept switching glances between Remus and (y/n). "But if you're 'ere, Remus-" He turned to (y/n -

). "Then doesn' that mean...?" Remus only nodded. The conductor suddenly went haywire.
"ERN! ERN, COME OVER 'ERE! IT'S 'ER!" An elderly man came shuffling up behind Stan, and he wore lenses so thick that his eyes were magnified to the size of tennis balls. "Pleased to meet you, (y/n)," the conductor said, shaking (y/n)'s hand furiously. "I'm Stan Shunpike, an' this is the Knight Bus, and our driver, Ernie Pang," Stan said, and Ern slightly bowed.
"Alright', six Sickles for a ride back to Quidditch Street. Your lucky you get to live in such a place, it's all fun there," Stan said as (y/n) took a seat, almost hesitantly. "Take 'er away, Ern," Stan said, and there was a loud bang and the Knight Bus took off at top speed. (y/n) fell backwards into her seat, and her stomach lurched as it took a sharp turn to the left.
"I think I'm going to be sick!" (y/n) said. "It's alright, (y/n)," Remus said. "It's normally like this." But (y/n) was still a faint green. "An' here we are!" Stan said proudly, opening the doors. (y/n) staggered to her feet, and hobbled off the bus, hand over her mouth. "Thanks, Stan," Remus said, then followed after (y/n), who was quite clueless of where to go. In front of her, there was a small little cottage, with flowers in the lawn.
Then there was another girl next door already rushing out. She had silky black hair, brown eyes and was slightly freckled. She looked a year older than (y/n). "MUM! DAD! IT'S HER!" The girl rushed up to (y/n), excited. "Hi, I'm Cho Chang, and you must be (y/n)! I've been so excited to meet you!" The girl said, shaking (y/n)'s hand furiously. (y/n) nodded, almost uncertainly. "Er- yes." Cho grinned. "Do you play Quidditch?" (y/n) shook her head, still nervous. There were so many questions to ask. What was Quidditch? Why did everyone seem so excited to meet her? Who was she even? Cho grinned again. "Then I can show you. I love Quidditch, so I can show you easily," Cho said. A woman laughed softly. Behind Cho was a thirty-two year old woman, looking like an older version of Cho. "Not too fast, Cho," she said. "She's only just returned from the Muggle world, so she'll need to adjust to the Wizarding World. Maybe next Friday?" Mrs. Chang suggested. Remus nodded. "Yes, we can do that. In the meantime, I have to teach my niece about our world." Mrs. Chang smiled. "Yes, and we can help adjust you back to your senses," Mr. Chang said, jokingly. Mrs. Chang nudged him. "Wang!" She hissed. "Not to worry, Huang, I think that I was losing my mind for the past few years," Remus said.
