As I attempt to end chapter four of the book I'm writing, motivation is involuntarily flung out the window.
What do you guys do when writer's block occurs? -
I'll give a quick response before I have to go
Just open a word document and type whatever's on your mind. It gets your brain into a routine and forces it to write SOMETHING. Also, set a specific time in the day to write, even if it's just for 5 minutes. Then your brain will get into a routine.
I have much more that I've learned, I can post it later. -
That's actually really helpful, thanks
-
No prob! I have a whole notebook filled with ideas on how to get rid of writers block, I just have to find it lol
Here’s a quick question that might help out my answers for this: are you a planner or a pantser when it comes to writing? (If you don’t know what that means, planner is when you plan out your writing very thoroughly before actually writing, and pantsing is when you’re writing on the seat of your pants, and you have no idea how the story is going to end when you open that word document. Obviously you can be a bit of both tho lol) -
Lmao what I could never
I’m a bit of both lol, like I know most of the plot and the events and stuffs but not to the finest detail -
The power of focusing on writing that instead of doing your homework😎
Lol same. Maybe write some scenes out on paper that you know really well? Idk but I have little scenes in my head that I remember and aren’t in the book yet, so I write them down because A, it gets my creative juices flowing and B, it’s just smart to keep them stored somewhere in case I forget. That might not work for you tho…🤷🏼 -
Slay the day away
That’s a pretty good idea lol. I do that sometimes but I never actually use it, I just kinda forget about the paragraph I wrote and rewrite it lmao. But that could be good for getting the creativity rivers flowing, tusk :’) -
TYSM* f--- you autocorrect
-
Lol yeah. Sometimes I type it out just because then I can copy and paste it and see what works (specifically for the first chapter of the story lol)
Do you know specifically why you can’t write, or is it just like, your brain won’t let you? -
It’s practically the opposite for me. IK exactly what to write for the first chapter then it all goes downhill lmao
Idk honestly, probably just burn-out or smth? Especially because school and stuff, and I often dedicate the same amount of time to my art and my writing, but I haven’t been able to do that lately because I open up that word document and my mind goes b l a n k. I like to suffer creatively twice -
That’s fair. Sometimes I just rush my first chapters so I need to space them out a bit because everything can’t start happening within the first page lol
Ok, that’s fair, I get that (yaaay fellow creative sufferer) hmm…. Yeah, get in a routine, but also maybe do some like, character building before you start writing? To get the juices flowing? -
True true. I’ve already figured out the concepts for most of the characters, but I don’t want to make them seem to stereotypical if you know what I mean? Like overused tropes and stuffs
-
Fair enough, although I’m one of those people that argues that tropes aren’t bad as long as you use them well (aka, not like Miraculous did) y’know?
-
Lmao yeah, Miraculous fell so hard. Idm tropes, but overused ones get kinda annoying sometimes. But I agree they’re not bad if used correctly. I just don’t wanna make it too cliché
-
That’s valid. I mean, your stories are like, super good (overused tropes or not) so maybe just… go for it??
Maybe to help get into a creative flow you just need writers prompts or something?... I know a couple friends that do that when they get writers block…
