Thread Topic: General Question about World Building

If you're someone who has created an original universe, please stop by this thread, I could use your help.
Do you have some form of record, word document or otherwise, of your work? Like to keep track of all the information and details you've come up with. If so, how did you structure the document itself? I'm attempting to put all my thoughts down in one space but I'm struggling with how to organize things in a way that it is easily digestible for myself & others. -
oh s--- that sounds like a good idea
All i have are creatures and shiz -
I literally wrote it all down in a physical notebook bc physically writing helps me process information better
-
@Seth: Do you have it organized in any specific way?
-
I have characters with their backstories and abilities listed in the back, geography and politics in the middle right before characters, and in the front I have like anecdotes and little excerpts of writing, brainstorming etc. My character pages also have illustrations of the characters
-
I also have a notebook specifically for my characters from alllll of my worlds

There's innumerable ways you can organize things for worldbuilding, depending on what works well for you. WorldAnvil and Campfire are pretty good popular tools strongly built for organization, but there's plenty of others. r/Worldbuilding has a ton of resources including, if I'm remembering correctly, a ton of format and organization related stuff.
I personally have been using TiddlyWiki a lot for organization, it's the first thing of its type that I tried and ended up getting familiar with it, so I can't say much about other similar things. It allows me to basically organize things however I want, and just create something of any length (a snippet to a huge in-depth page) for each 'thing' in my setting.
But that's just it, I'm moreso working on a setting that I can set stories within, rather than the world surrounding a story or multiple, so a format like that benefits me a lot.
Honestly I could put together quite an extensive worldbuilding thread if people here would be interested. -
Most world building I have experience in is for dungeons and dragons. It's usually a google doc with anything important to the world labelled for readability. The longest doc of this type is roughly 30 pages long and contains other smaller documents inside it with an index and page markers.
