Echo coughed and spat out blood. "Please don’t," she begged, staring pleadingly up at her captor. A grim expression spread across the hooded figure's face. "I’m afraid," he began, his voice metallic and emotionless like a machine, "that I’ve let you wander much too far into the Tunnel. You’ll be glad that I…" His voice cracked. "It’s not important." He raised his knife. -

Halo woke up with a scream. "What the hell?" she screeched at Kin. "You think this is funny?" She glanced at the broken glass around her and the frigid doorknob at her feet. Kin inclined his head and his image turned hazy. "Perhaps this was all an illusion, Halo. Perhaps I was never here." She blinked, and he disappeared. Halo's small, cozy cottage was as neat and organized as ever. Her sister's kindly face poked into the room. "What’s wrong?" she asked. Halo cursed; she had most likely screamed in real life as well. -
"It’s a long story," Halo said with the best poker face she could muster. Valentine, Val for short, was the only angel who had been nice to her. Halo excused herself and slipped out of the room.
-
With one last pained glance at her sister, Valentine creeped into the room and dug around. Finding nothing of interest, she sighed and headed back to her room. Val wanted to help her sister so badly, but Halo wouldn’t tell her what the problem was, and Val couldn’t find anything in her room. Also, she didn’t like invading people’s personal space. She’d had firsthand experience of it, and she knew how painful it felt. Val didn’t want to force anything from her sister.
-
Halo called from a distant room, "You wouldn’t happen to be digging around in my room, would you?" Val turned pale, even though she could tell Halo was merely teasing her. "Ha, no, of course not!" Val lied, and immediately felt guilty about it. She didn’t like lying to her sister if she could avoid it.

Halo sighed in relief. "The clouds are golden. Like the Golden Fleece," she thought aloud. The Greek myth poked its way into her mind like the gentle breeze drifting through summer. Poseidon the sea god and a mortal princess had had a momentary fling.
-
Then, Poseidon had used his magic and turned her into an ewe. He had turned into a ram, and… well, one thing led to another. A ram with a golden fleece was born, and later that fleece had been christened the Golden Fleece.
