I usually listen to music. I like to just completely block out the outside world and listening to music really helps me focus and I can daydream better about where I want my story to go. But I'm curious if some people find listening to music distracting when writing?

Most of the time, I write how I feel. I will sit down in a quite space, and focus on how to incorporate my feelings into words. If I am writing a short story or novel, I have to have complete silence so I can envision myself in their (the main characters shoes). I also pull from my own experiences, to make the narrative, story or poem resonate with someone.

Well, I started listening to music more often than just the radio in the car when all this covid stuff happened. Unfortunately when the covid stuff started, I got into a lot of trouble with my parents and was banned from writing until the school year ended (yes, I'm dying right now).
Before I started listening to music more often, it would just be in silence. But since I haven't tried listening to music while writing, I don't know. I've listened to it while doing my homework, but the song can't have words in it because it breaks up my concentration.
So in other words, I'm not sure/I don't know. -
I listen to music all the time when I write, but it has to be without words unless it's a song I know by heart. If I'm familiar with it, then the lyrics won't distract my mind.

Hmm interesting.
I used to hate listening to music when writing but I think after writing so many papers for school, I started listening to it to block everything else out, and now I find that I'll just have a playlist going and I'll be writing and then I realize that I have no idea what the past three songs were -
I listen to music and write if the story is based on a song in which some cases it is for me

There’s this one song called “Kalimba” by Mr. Scruff, so if I’m writing it’s either that or silence. Usually silence.

I’ll listen to music because my mind goes blank when everything is silent. But when I’m reading everything has to be quiet or I'll flip out. I’m a weird person. 😂

i listen to calm music like john denver when i write or i play the fallout 4 diamond city radio playlist.
