No one knew what would happen... No one knew that after today, everything we once knew would change. Not even Lauren. She had to find out the hard way...
Lauren Michelle Jauregui Morgado, a senior at Miami University, straight A student, and she has the perfect girlfriend in her best friend Lucy. Lauren had a seemingly perfect life; supportive parents and friends, a good job working at the local diner, and soon she would be able to pursue a career in the medical field as well. She had many friends from the university that she always hung around with, including her girlfriend Lucy that is. They always found a way to have fun when they were all together.
On this particular day, June 27, 2018, everything shall change though. For Lauren? The perfect life she once knew, well it will fade away. Fade into the blankness of the pages, fade into the darkness. It will no longer exist.
Lauren was on her way back to her apartment that she shared with Lucy that evening, having had to stay at the university longer than usual to finish up an important essay for one of her classes she took. She knew that Lucy would most likely have some surprise for her, so she was prepared for anything. Well- almost anything, that is. Every year Lucy would have some type of surprise for the green eyed girl though. Or atleast try to. So the green eyed girl was prepared, and looking forward, to see what Lucy had planned out for today- well night.
"Honey, I'm home!" Lauren yelled out, immediately followed by a laugh, as she opened up the apartment door and stepped into the medium sized place. It had all that the two needed inside. A bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and a main room. Just perfect for the two of them. Lauren was expecting some type of response when she announced her presence, but nothing ever came, so she figured the other woman had fell asleep probably. That may be why she didn't get a response as usual, she figured.
Placing her bags down by the closet, she grinned evilly, and made her way to the bedroom door and pushed it open. She glanced over to the bed to see a figure lying upon the bed, its back towards her. She could immediately tell that it was her girlfriend too. With a smirk, she crept up to the woman and pounced onto the bed- onto the other woman, knocking them both to the floor though with Lauren down kn her back, and the other above her. But as Lauren looked up at the face of her girlfriend, she didn't recognize it. It was deformed, twisted, her eyes were dull and lifeless. Her skin was pale, and around her eyes were red. Blood red. This was not the girl she knew.
Lucy let out an unhumanly growl as she tried to lean down, tried to bite Lauren. But Lauren used all of her strength to hold off the woman, to hold her back. Putting as much as she could into it, he pushed upwards and threw the woman off of her. In fear, she leapt up as quick as she could and slid across the bed and to the door, but something pulled her back causing her to fall to the floor and land on her face, which slammed against the wooden boards hardly. Her nose was in pain, and a liquid she could feel slowly pouring out and down to her lips as well. The taste of copper filling her mouth as she rolled over, kicking at the figure. This was not her girlfriend... This was not Lucy. Not anymore....
She managed to get her leg loose from the creatures grasp and pushed herself backwards, keeping an eye on it. Soon feeling herself hit against a wall, she slowly slid up, pressed against it. Just in time as the creature came charging towards her.
Having to react fast, she sidestepped quickly to the left, barely able to avoid getting hit, sending the creature into the hard brick wall. But it kept moving, just fell to the ground from the impact.
"Lucy..." Lauren silently spoke, staring at the creature that was her girlfriend. Tears brimming her eyes, ready to fall down St any second. 'Please stop...' she thought as she reached into the knifeholder and grasped a kitchen knife in her pale hands. She stared at her girlfriend, the creature, praying that it would remain still. Praying that this was all a big bad dream.
But the creature charged again St the dark haired woman, who raised up the knife in defense. I'm sorry.' she thought, as the knife pierced through the creatures skull, as purplish blood slowly dripped out from the wound. The creature fell to the ground with the knife in its head, limp. Cold. Dead...
Lauren had killed her girlfriend.
"I'm sorry..." she spoke quietly, kneeling beside the deceased, motionless corpse. Tests falling from her eyes like a waterfall.
In the background, she could hear the television on as an emergency announcement came on....
"We interrupt this program to bring you an emergency announcement. Earlier today, people have been spotted. They're pale...blood red eyes... That growl... We don't know what has happened, but they are attacking us. Please keep safe! Keep indoors, and don't tru- AHH!"
The announcement cut short and went all silent just after the sound of the growl, that unhuman growl, came through. -
Chapter One
The ones closest to us, they are the worst...especially in this case. The... Attachment, it makes it harder to survive.
June 30, 2018
The dark starry sky, the bright moon, they shone down casting a low light onto the pale skinned woman as she sat atop a random rooftop in the middle of this town that she was in currently. She was on her way home, home to check up on her family to make sure they were alright. She knew her brother and father could protect her mum and sis, hopefully.. She wanted to make sure they were safe though. Make sure for herself. Since her car, well, it got hijacked when this all broke loose, she has had to make her way home by foot. Carefully... She did her best to keep away from the creatures... The horrible stench that they cast away from themselves was unbearable, but helped her know when one was closeby though. It was sickening though.
Laying beside her, resting against the wall, was an old baseball bat she had from high school. Luckily she hadn't had to use it yet, but she want be too safe. There is no telling when one of those things may come, or even another person, they may mistake her as one of those...those things. She had to tread carefully though. She didn't want to kill another one of those things.
She didn't have very far to go before she would reach her home-well her parents home anyway. She could arrive there by midday tomorrow if she woke up at sunrise. She isn't going to try to traverse the streets of Miami at night with these things, her vision is so low with the streetlamps not working well. Some work, yes, but most are completely off for some reason.
In the distance she can hrsr the sound of people screaming.. Those things ,she really needs a name for them, growling. Gunshots here and there. She knew she was not alone, but she didn't want to run into another person. She... she has trust issues, especially in this. She knows that in chaos people are less trustworthy. Criminals especially. Just the other day she watched from afar as her priest at her church shot an innocent ten year old girl just because she was covered in blood from those creatures. She was very much human, her cries gave that out. She seemed normal, but the priest must not have seen what Lauren had saw though. But, she can see why. The girl was covered in blood crying, and running towards the elderly man. This was chaos.
Lauren felt her eyes grow weak, grow heavy. Wrapping her sweater tighter around herself, she relaxed against the cool brick wall and soon sleep overtook her as the sounds filled up the air around her. Her dark hair falling over her face, as she found some peace that night in her sleep. In her dreams....
Dreams filled with Lucy.
Dreams turned into nightmares...
She replayed the events from her birthday. When she took the life of her girlfriend. The way she looked. Lucy's pale skin, those blood red eyes. Her passed out on the floor... it was too much, and a tear after tear began to drip from her eyes as she laid there on that rooftop. -
The harsh bright light from the sunrise hit Lauren in the eyes the next day, causing to young 22 year old woman to wake up from her sleep and out kg her nightmare. Her sweater wet from the tears that fell from her eyes throughout the night, right dead center of the yellow sweater was an easily visible as wet. Moist. All form her tears. With a sigh, Lauren braced herself against the wall, and pushed herself up. Discarding her wet sweater onto the ground, she reached under her bat and pulled over towards her her backpack, unzipping it, and pulling out a water bottle, brown cinnamon pop tart, and a black hoodie she had inside. Pulling the hoodie over her head, she opened up the potart and began to eat her breakfast quickly, gulping down some water here and there too.
As she finished up, she slung the backpack over her back, and grabbed the black and gold bat that she had, and made her way slowly and quietly to the ledge, peeking down to see if the coast was clear. Seeing none of the creature thingies, or anyone around, she dropped down at the side onto a dumpster, then onto the ground. Stumbling a bit, but managing to keep her balance without falling over. Checking around herself, she stepped out and began her march down the back alleys to her home, a good few miles away. Hoping she could get there safely.
A few hours later of walking, she came upon the oh so familiar home that she left from a few months ago when she had came to visit them for the holidays and spend time with her family. She hoped that they were all inside, surviving, somehow. So she made her way up the steps to the wooden door and pushed it open. Seeing as it was not locked or anything. She braced herself with the bat, just in case. She couldn't be too careful. She slowly tip toed through the hall and peeking into every room downstairs, not seeing anyone around. She glanced to the stairs leading upstairs, and made her way towards them, elevating the steps as she went up them carefully not to make any noise.
She saw some fallen pictures in the hall a she reached the top, and made her way to her old room at the end of the hall. Pushing it open to see it in perfect condition, how she left it. She quickly opened up her closet and grabbed her old softball duffelbag and began to fill it with some of her clothes, but not completely. She knew she would need food, especially if her family wasn't here.
As she filled the bag halfway up, she heard a noise from her parents bedroom, and stopped what she was doing immediately. Glancing up St the door, she saw a pale figure come out of the room. As she looked up, she saw the face of her father on one of those... Things. As she glanced behind it, she spotted another one... And at closer observation easily recognized the other figure as her mother.
They were turned...it seemed. They were one of them.
Fear.... Sadness... Emotions burst through her as she watched the two of them. Worry... Worry for her sister and brother. Were they alright?
She slung on the backpack and duffelbag over her shoulder... she was outnumbered two to one. She couldn't bring herself to do it. To kill them. Not another loved one. Without hesitation, she least out of her window, falling ungracefully down into the bushes outside, twisting her ankle on impact. Ignoring the pain, she ran. She ran so far away... -
Here's a tip I've learned from an Amino I'm in:
If you write a chapter, make sure the word count is 3,000 to 5,000 words
Around 3,000 to 4,000 is best though.
But the story is amazing -
That's about what people on wattpad tell me, about that long. I'm just lazy, doing this for fun though aha.
Thanks Blue :)
