And also:
How do you write temporary ptsd
Like how to have a character get it and then un get it
Is that even possible
I'm confused -
Have them go through a traumatic event and have them work through it
-
Wait but doesn't it affect the brain
How can something un damage the brain -
Disclaimer: I'm not an expert on psychological stuff or anything, so I'm kind of just speaking from experience, things my therapist has told me, and some quick Google searches.
PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) is, surprise, a mental disorder. It doesn't just disappear and flutter into Never-never Land. It can take years of extensive therapy to overcome, and it can't just be "undone". When you go through a traumatic event, it sticks with you. It's already happened and, unless you've got a time machine, cannot be changed. It can continue to affect a person in several different ways: flashbacks, anxiety, nightmares, and a variety of other symptoms may develop as a result of PTSD. Thus, you should look into some of the symptoms and consider how they may affect your character. Also, keep in mind that PTSD is different for everyone. Some people may experience more intense symptoms than others. This depends on the person and the traumatic event they went through. Likewise, recovery is different for everyone. I'm not too sure on ways that people overcome PTSD, so maybe look that up on your own. You'll have to look into some serious psychology research, I bet, to understand the different factors that go into PTSD and recovering from it. I imagine that writing a character with any type of disorder is difficult, so make sure you research it a lot so that you can get it right. Yeah, it may be tedious, but your work will turn out better for it.
