Before anyone asks, I'm not going to kill myself. I love my life. This is just for a story I'm writing, and yeah.

why does the character want to die
usually suicide is an impulsive thing so don't make it too long
unless they've been planning it for a very long time or something idk -

Well, it depends on the character who writes the note then. A depressed character would write about how they feel everyone will be better without them. An angry person would blame people for it. A person who feels invisible and doesn't have anyone in their life wouldn't need to write a note at all.
No matter what the rest of the content of the note is, it would probably start with: "If you're reading this... That means I have finally taken my life..." Or something like that. -

I actually feel like the "if you're reading this" just isn't something someone would say. If they were truly conflicted, their note would be full of their insecurities. They might even show their confusion as to why they're choosing to do this, if it's a spontaneous thing.. And if they had been planning it, they'd convey their regrets. I feel like many people that are thinking about suicide take that time to share anything on their mind for the last time.
