Chapter One: The Rose
There it was; lying on the table, looking ever so graceful like the day he had left it. The petals were still a vibrant color, just not the bright white it had been. They were now yellowed with age and seemed to crinkle shut every time the sunlight shone on it. The stem that was such a vibrant green, was now a dirt colored brown that reflected the earth that it came from. Somehow; even through the process of decaying, the rose still looked as beautiful as ever. It kept that youthful grace that some people would deem quality like, but at the same time held such a melancholy aura around it that most people would deem it as insufferable.
To me, it was his rose.
It was the rose that symbolized youthful grace and everlasting beauty. It was something that meant eternal grace when in a world we were living in, our relationship was deemed invalid.
At the time when he gave me the rose, it was a beacon of hope for a brighter future, a better tomorrow. It gave me the hope that I needed, to strive forward and try my best. It was like a candle in the dark, beckoning me ever so close to the flame without burning me, leading me down the path that was chosen for me.
But then, that's when the rose started to wilt.
The hope I had once received from the rose was now dimming like a wax candle, down to the stub of the wick. I felt like my life was insufferable and getting harder to bear day by day.
No longer came the letters, or white roses through the mail. No more came the secrets of past-times with friends or tales of 'accidental' pranks, in which no one was ever caught. It was all gone within the blink of an eye. I never fully understood why the letters stopped. I just assumed he didn't care for me anymore.
That's when I received the last rose, and my hope sparked again. But along with that solitary rose, came a letter. A letter that would forever change my life. A letter that would make me understand why so many weeks had gone by without hearing a word from him.
A letter that began with,
