The wind whipped in Emilys face as she strolled through the thick, dark forest filled with huge, giant-sized, rough redwood trees, their trunks twisted permanently in an odd fashion from a disease thousands of years ago . Careful to stay on the path, she wove through the trees. Emily glanced upwards, towards the darkening afternoon sky. Being half-werewolf, Emily could feel in her bones that tonight all three moons would be shining.
A loud snapping sound rang through the forest. Emily jumped, then whispered, Hello? Anyone there?
No answer came. Emily crept further into the forest. She saw nobody. Then, as she peered into the darkness past the path, Emily heard a loud, booming voice.
Mordecai was here. I can tell. The forest is no safe place for a young girl like you. Emily whirled around. A tall giant leaned against one of the trees, taller than all other giants. His shaggy brown beard was littered with cow-sized bones, and his black eyes gleamed. Emily instantly knew who he was.
King Ganganleame! What are you doing here? And where in the world is your Crown? Emily asked.
King Ganganleame was an old friend of Emilys. When Emily first transformed into wolf form, he was there to help. After that, they met nearly every week, but recently, Emily hadnt seen the King for a while. So, Emily was quite surprised that he was here.
There has been an.incident. I came to ask you for a favor. The King bent down, trying and failing to look into her eyes.
Of course! Anything!
Ah, Emily, I would wait if I were you to say you would do it. What I ask is quite dangerous. Ganganleame straightened, his back cracking with the sound of a thousand trees falling. What Im asking is for you to go on a quest to try and find my Crown. Lord Mordecai has stolen it. It was unquestionably stolen. It could not have been lost.
King, of course Ill find your crown! Emily cried. I would go on a million quests to find it for you!
Yes, I knew youd say yes. I.. Ganganleame stumbled, and a hissing sound came out of his mouth. Then, in a voice entirely not his own, he chanted,
One shall search for the Crown of Souls,
One shall find the Sword of Gold,
Two Heroes shall rise to save the land,
Shall try to stop what the Lord has planned.
Uh, wow. Wh,Wh, What was that? Emily asked.
Its your prophecy, The King replied grimly.
Emilys adventure was about to start.
That night, after the King and Emily talked, with the King describing the cavern that was too small for him to get into, she started her journey. In her wolf body, Emily was safer, faster, and more keen, so Emily felt at peace, even though she was embarking on a dangerous quest. Mile after mile she went, running restlessly without fail, determined to find the cavern the King had mentioned. She only stopped twice to find food and water.
But then she heard a roar. She stopped, and, quickly and quietly, turned human. Almost immediately, Emily felt fatigued. Quickly, Emily ran, ignoring the urge to lay down and sleep for the next hundred years, and saw two dragons fighting in the clearing. One of the dragons was small, with dark, flame-red scales, and looked unable to fight much longer. The other dragon was huge, almost as big as the trees in the forest, and had slick, oil black scales. Furious, Emily charged into the clearing, and, turning into a wolf again, bit into the bigger dragons neck. Venom pumped through her fangs. The dragon stood still for a moment, then roared. Emily jumped away just as the dragon turned to dust. Laying in the dust was a large, gleaming gold sword and a black leather sheath. Emily turned back to human and picked it up. It seemed to have been made just for her. She turned to the other dragon.
Thanks, Emily! The dragon gasped, smoke hovering around his horns. Good to see you again. What are you doing near Dragon Mountain? The dragon, Herald, had met Emily a couple years ago when she saved him from a group of furious dwarves.
Hi, Herald. Emily stumbled and yawned. Im on a quest to find the Goblin Giant Kings Crown.
Cool! Can I join? Herald asked.
Sure. Emily yawned, then sat down on a piece of moss. Herald sat down next to her, and Emily explained the quest and the cavern. Afterwards, they fell asleep, exhausted.
The next morning, Herald and Emily took off, this time in the air.
This is so much quicker! Emily shrieked, the wind wailing in her ears and ripping at her clothes. The green world beneath them looked so peaceful. It was hard for Emily to believe that the whole world was in danger.
Hey, isnt that the cavern you were telling me about? Herald asked, circling.
Emily squinted at the cavern below. Why, I think it is! Emily exclaimed, and they descended. The caverns wide, gaping mouth seemed to just be waiting to gobble them up, sharp rocks on the ceiling dripped with water and reminded Emily of sharp teeth.
Creepy, Herald noted, his large, scaly head eying the rocks with particular suspicion. The smoke blowing out of his nostrils thickened, and some blew into her eyes.
Herald! Emily snapped, coughing. Get your vile smoke away from me!
Sorry. Herald turned his head away. But as he did, something caught his eye. A gleaming golden crown, shrunk to the size of an ordinary crown, but still unique. The faces of the souls trapped inside the crown seemed to shriek silently, their mouths wide open. The Crown of Lost Souls.
Look! Herald gasped, and ran over. The Crown!
Thats weird, Emily said cautiously, walking over to the Crown. Where are guards? Where is Mordecai?
They probably heard us and ran! Herald replied, picking up the crown.
Herald, DONT!! Emily bellowed, but it was too late. All the shadows in the room gathered and formed a swirling portal. A tall, dignified man with a sharp goatee and a mustache stepped through it.
How nice of you to drop in! Lord Mordecai said, and then chaos broke loose.
Emily rushed at him, her golden sword drawn. Herald leapt at him, spewing flames the color of his dark red scales. Mordecai blocked both the fire and the sword with a shadow sword and shield that appeared out of nowhere.
You cant defeat me! Mordecai cried.
We can try! Emily replied, and hit Mordecai on the side. Black blood leaked out of the wound.
How, how did you do hit me? How did you hurt me? Mordecai cried, distracted.
Now! Emily shouted.
Herald then blew out the largest ball of fire ever breathed by a dragon. Mordecai burst into flames.
His screams were the last thing ever uttered from his mouth, for after that, he burst into ashes.

Thank you! boomed King Ganganleame, picking up the Crown. Almost immediately, the Crown grew back to its original size.
Youre welcome, sighed Emily. Do me a favor, and dont send me on any more quests for a while. I was pretty sure I was going to die.
I second the motion. Herald glanced up from the huge, smelly, furry moose he was eating.
Alright! King laughed, and the ground seemed to rumble.
Wow, giants are LOUD! Herald muttered to Emily.
Youll get used to it, Emily replied.
Emily was home, back at the forest where she belonged. The Crown was safe. There were no more evil Lords wanting to destroy the world. There were no more mad dragons trying to kill Herald. All was well that ends well.
One shall search for the Crown of Souls,
One shall find the Sword of Gold,
Two Heroes shall rise to save the land,
Shall try to stop what the Lord has planned.
