It all started when I got the call. I looked over at the caller ID and knew that this wasnt going to be good. It was the Cornell. He was calling to tell me that I was being shipped out tomorrow morning. I hung up the phone and called my parents so I could tell them what was happening. When they picked up the phone they seemed a little shaken, but I just assured them that everything was going to be okay. Honestly, even I was taken by surprise.
The rest of the day went by in a blur. I went upstairs and packed, and then went to say one last goodbye to my parents. When I finally snapped out of my daze I was on the utility trucks heading back to the base were they would fly me and a bunch of other guys into battle. As we slowly drove away I felt sadness and joy at the same time. I also felt guilty for putting the stress of whether or not I would come back alive on my parents.
When we got to the spot where the battle raged on I couldnt believe that it was actually outside. The Great Wall of China (I still dont know why the Chinese tried to take over the US.) The blood bath that had occurred was sickening and was enough to scare me to death. Thats when I was heard the single gunshot ring out from the valley and we immediately dropped to the ground. The person next to me did a back flip and landed on his back. I paid no attention to it because I knew that surely he was dead. Then, more fire comes from the valley. We slowly progress returning the fire and every so often took to the woods for cover.
Eventually we had to quit. They were mowing us down like blades of grass. Once under cover, we decided to breakup. My squad wandered the woods for what seemed like hours searching for a break point in the enemy lines. Suddenly, a huge group stepped out of the shadows and I knew that this was a trap.
My first instinct was to shoot, but instead I did the dumbest thing that I could have done. I ran. I dont know what came over me, but I broke out into a dead sprint. Everyone in a while turned back and shot at random targets. When I finally thought that it was safe, I turned back and began walking the other way looking for the other members of my squad.
When I couldnt stand to be there any longer, I decided to wander into the woods. Finally about an hour passes by and I find myself standing in front of a four story building. When I enter the building was cram packed with explosives, Huh. Just my luck, I thought. Bad things always happened when Im around explosives. Thats when I heard the man walk up behind me, I dropped to the ground just as he pulled the trigger.
Then a huge explosion rang out through the valley. When I crawled away from the ruble I noticed that I had multiple injuries. I lay there in the grass sure that I will die, but I hear friendly voices walking up behind me. I slowly slip into unconsciousness. In the months to come I slowly recover and Im sent home to my family. The war is won and the US slowly recovers from its long period of misery. Though the wounds have healed, the scars and memories will always remain -
THe gates creaked open with the faintest blow of wind and she walkd up the cracked steps of the abonded fortress. The wind blowed debris and debree from the storm across the yard.

the leaves blowed throught his hair as he looked up toward the broken home. He shook his head and stepped away. A girl looked through the window and watched him walk away and a tear fell down her cheek. She wiped it away as she wrote a letter that would efffect everything. She walked down the cracked steps and down the sidewalk down to Hangman's Cove, tears streaming down her face. She climbed the tree and looked at the rop that was placed there. She looked up and smiled. "If this happens know that I love you." she murmured as she saw someone run toward her. -

The boy was running toward Hangmans cove with all of his might. He didn't know why, just instinct. He saw her ontop of one of the branches. He motioned her down and she started to climb down. She rushed toward him with her arms open and tears streaming down her face with the letter clenched in her hand. "I love you." she said.
