Chapter One: On The Throne
Haven't you ever woken up, and a sudden thought that popped into your head, and it was so good that while you sang to Taylor Swift while brushing your teeth and stuffing your face with Captain Crunch, you kept a hold of that thought?
It all started during the dreaded afternoon of my first day of school. Waking up sweaty and with serious morning breathe was definitely not on my "Be Happy" list. And especially waking up in my father's house. A couple of years ago, my parents fought so much, and they started separating. The only one who was there for me was my Aunt
Julie. She would always cook me breakfast and on some occasions, I would have to sleep at her house because my parents arguments would get so bad. One day, my mother called a divorce and that was it. They totally separated for good. I thought we would be one happy family and never hate eachother, but I was clearly wrong. When I turned 13, a year after my parent's divorce, to get away from the pain, I would always pretend to be the beautiful and vivacious princess living in a 20 ft castle wearing an elegant dress ans two parents, which were the King and Queen, and always were together and never argued. I always did that at my mother's apartment, when she had a boyfriend. Mark Lanes.... That was his name. He would always make the best enchiladas so I liked him. When my Aunt came over to my mother's house to check up on me, and I was acting like a princess, my mother would be quite worried.
"Julie, I don't think she's ever done this before.. Is it because we divorced?"
I remember hearing my Aunt downstairs, and she softly chuckled.
"Don't worry, Julie. She's just being creative and imaginative."
"At 13, Julie? She isn't a child. She needs to grow up"
Once I heard that, I stopped doing it. Maybe I did need to grow up.. and then... that memory.. that thought hit me. When I saw... Him.
