For being the usual, bright, sunny day that was normal for the Coldyein Realm, Reea was terribly cold. The fear that had settled into his heart was torturing him, it was making him want to crawl into a dark, damp hole, curl up, and die. It seemed likely that that would be his fate. To be a ball of dying warmth in a wet hole? It reassured him.
Reea glanced down at the black watch that was set around his wrist. How odd, he thought, it looks like a snake. A ticking black snake that was coiled around his wrist. The watch ticked slowly. Tick, tock, tick, tock. It was a very unreasonably slow pace. The only reason for that feeling, however, was because the group of people he had assembled was nowhere to be seen. It was five minutes past the time he had set up with them. He was almost irritated.
"If they don't show up soon, I'll have to do it all on my own..." he muttered under his breath. Reea's gaze turned to the lush green forests that surrounded the castle. He cracked a small smile. "Maybe they'll all come in a swarm. Yes, that's it. They're already getting to know each other, and they're late because they're making friends!" He liked that idea. However, it could be that they were just spies. He grimaced at the last thought. That would make him an idiot. So instead of thinking about his late team, he suddenly gained interest with his watch.
~
Castle frowned at herself. She was wondering if, maybe, she should speed up her pace a bit. Or a lot. It would be rude, after all, to not be at the meeting place that was in front of Reea's castle. But she would much rather get there after everyone else. If anyone else was there. The thought of her being the only one there made her not exactly mind that she would be late.
She looked down at the forest floor and saw a pine cone lying a few paces in front of her. She went up to it. With minimal strength, Castle kicked at the pine cone, sending it flying into a bush. She sighed loudly as a bird fluttered up and out of the bush. For a second, she considered shooting it down. It wouldn't hurt anyone. Her hand twitched around her gun.
She couldn't manage it, though. Deciding against shooting the bird, she sped up her pace. She hurried along to the meeting place with newfound energy. -
Abner pulled his hood over his head. He continued to push forward. With narrowed eyes, he glided along the path he had chosen. His familiar, a tiger that he loved so dearly, prowled silently along beside him. Both were on guard as they moved. It wasn't their fault that they were late.
The tiger had some anger issues on the way there. Some hungry anger issues. Abner had to stop and allow his big furry friend to attack a group of pigeons that had happened to be waddling on the path. He hadn't enjoyed the pit stop, but at least the tiger wasn't having a fit anymore.
~
Scarlet padded into the clearing of the castle. She was the first to arrive, unless you counted Reea. That would make her the second. Shaking out her thick, dark red pelt, the she-wolf shifted into her human form. Her golden eyes blinked at Reea as she pulled the black coat that was on her human body closer to her.
She said not a word but went right over to the wall of the castle behind him, leaning against it. The brick wall felt cool on her back. It was quite refreshing. Scarlet allowed her eyes to scan the clearing, then scan Reea. Her mid-back scarlet red hair ticked her face. She chuckled softly.
Reea was startled by the sudden shift of bodies and species change Scarlet had demonstrated. He saw her go behind her out of the corner of his eye. Weak, with no words to say, he turned and stared at her. She stared back.
~
Silari walked through the woods silently. Her head was cocked to one side as she listened for any other people that she was meeting. That, and danger. She ran a hand through her hair as she walked past a large, knotted oak tree.
The tree was one of the few landmarks she knew about. And if she was correct, this tree was near the meeting place. Silari carefully stepped into the small clearing and eyed the people that were already standing there. One was Reea. The other, however, she didn't know. Must be one of my new teammates.
By that point, Reea was beginning to feel relieved. Two of them were finally here, and he didn't have to worry too much anymore. He had already lost interest in his watch. He felt the need to say something to the girls. But he just kept his mouth shut. -
Estelle's wings fluttered as she swiftly flew through the woods to get to the meeting spot. She was mad at herself. She could tell by the way the sun was pointed that she was late, even if it was only a few minutes. She just had to sleep in, didn't she?
Estelle accidentally knocked over a couple of lone travelers who thought the woods would make for a good short cut. Each time she ran over one, she apologized, and set them off on the right track to the village they were looking for. This only slowed her down more and more. At last, after she apologized to the last traveler, she spotted the clearing. She landed right on the borderline of the forest, neatly folding her wings behind her back.
She let her gaze trail up to the huge castle. It was amazing. After a minute of staring up at the massive castle, she looked at the people surrounding her. She was the fourth person there. Two of the people there she didn't recognize, but Reea was a fire starter.
Scarlet and Silari shifted at the same time. The two girls stared at Estelle at the same time, too. They payed no attention to each other, though, and just reclaimed their earlier positions.
Darkar stood on a branch in one of the trees that was surrounding the clearing. So far, there were four people there. He didn't know any of them. Hell, he didn't even know the Reea dude. It was surprising enough that the guy was able to get in contact with him in such a short amount of time. Not only that, but he had been there ever since "Reea" first got ahold of Darkar. So much for being the first person that no one knew about.
Reea's eyes flicked between all of the people that were there. He was minus a few, but other than that, at least they were there, right? He stuffed his hands into his pockets. Clearing his throat, he noticed that all pairs of eyes were on him.
"Um, hey guys," He awkwardly started off. "It's great to see you've decided to come after all. Really.. Really great.." His voice trailed and he took a glance at the castle behind him. Since the sun was shining so brightly, it had some points that were shiny, but others were darkened by shadows. It made him feel no better about this. Reea took in the air and drained his fears away as he prepared for the worst. As he prepared for the best. -
After pacing for some time, Castle finally made it to the clearing, noticing that she actually was almost the last person there. She could barely recall Reea saying that there would be six people there, not including Reea or herself. She let out a sigh. Leaning against a tree that was close to where she had emerged from the forest, she slipped her hands into her pockets. Her eyes flickered from person to person, spot to spot, never staying quite still for long.
After a few minutes, she gave up on everyone and turned her gaze to the castle. She found it kind of funny, meeting people by something she was named after, after all. Castle frowned and turned her gaze to Reea.
Abner leaned against a tree, watching the growing group. His eyes flicked over to another girl who was leaning against a tree not too far from his. He considered for a brief moment about walking over to her, soon deeming it too bad to think about doing.
He let out a quiet yawn and shrugged his shoulders in an attempt to relax. He watched a Kiniver moved slightly closer to another male. Reea. Abner watched them with quiet coldness, the tiger laying down next to him and looking up at his elfen companion. Abner reached a hand down, petting the tiger with his cool hand.
Scarlet was the Kniver that moved closer to Reea. She had pushed herself off the wall, striding over to Reea. She turned all of her attention to him. "What now?" She mused. She narrowed her eyes at him and watched the others for a split second before looking back at him. He shifted, glancing at her, but no words came out. She suspected that maybe he was busy thinking for an answer.
Silari was the next person to ask him something similar. She ignored the fact that Scarlet had already asked the question, staring at Reea with amusement. His overall appearance made him seem average; Pale caucasian skin, slightly curled chocolate brown hair, red eyes, and glasses. He wore a blood red long sleeved shirt and tight black pants. The finishing touch was his brown snow boots.
"Yes, it's really great we're here, isn't it?" She said in an indifferent tone, "But getting down to business would be even greater." Again, Reea took a glance and stayed deathly silent. Her eyes glittered at him, taking in his appearance a last time, before she looked to the others. She then began to take in their appearances. -
At Silari and Scarlet's statements, everyone exchanged glances. It was obvious that they all shared the same question.
Estelle smiled in response to what Reea had previously said. It was great that she was here, because it was pretty awesome to be seeing the castle up close. She said in her usual loud voice, "Anything to help with the current state of the realm!" A few chuckles from the boys. She frowned, even though it wasn't directed at the boys.
"I do agree with the other females, we really should get down to business. The mages won't delay themselves for our sake," Estelle said, her golden eyes serious. Reea let out a sigh. She let out her own and looked at the faces of everyone else. She noticed one of the girls that was slowly taking her in, and the two of them met eyes for a moment. She shivered and looked away. Her eyes met with everyone else's. Most were cold, or distracted. Reea's eyes were the only one who was calm and soft. She shifted her feet a bit. This was getting uncomfortable.
Darkar stayed up in the tree, an amused look on his face. He looked over the group. Everyone seemed to be equal, or at least strong, just like himself. It made him comfortable. Everyone wants answers, but they aren't getting one. Maybe I should just go down there and force them out of him, he thought.
There was no need for Darkar's violent thought, however. Reea let out a low chuckle, and everyone's eyes turned to stare at the man who had a sudden outburst. "Getting down to business is exactly why you're all here, at this time. Because I know that you all came for some action.. And to help save the inhabits of this place. Which is why I'll be putting everyone into groups and sending you on your merry way. I can assure you that there will be fighting, because the locations I have for everyone to go to all have mages lurking there." He paused. He shifted his weight to the left side, continuing. "The mages are what you might call 'low-leveled'. In other words, you should have no trouble kicking ass. It's a test to see if all of you would be able to handle the bigger part of the reason why you're here. You want to know why? In the end, there will be mages who will not hesitate to see you lying on the floor, begging for mercy, praying for help that you won't receive. They will kill you slowly. If you can't fight off the simple ones, what point do you have of being here?"
Reea smiled in satisfaction as everyone continued to have their determined, cold stares. He slowly scanned them all. None of them faltered or flinched right away. None of them seemed weak in the least bit. He knew that they had a good chance of being able to decrease the number of the attacking mages easily. They had a chance. A big, nice fat one. Reea ran a hand through his hair. It bothered him that it was sticking up in different directions in the humid air.
"Any questions?" -

I got a long part! :D
I love it! -
Castle was the first to react. She hadn't planned to speak, but she did have one question. It looked like she would have to put up with herself. Not bothering to have eye contact with Reea, locking her eyes on the castle, she asked, "How many people will there be per group?" Her eyes finally fluttered down to Reea. She looked him up and down, as if sizing him up for a fight. He nodded at her, not giving out an answer right away, just like the last time everyone asked him something.
Abner stepped out of the shadows he had been hiding in and moved to a brighter spot on the tree, leaning back against it. He simply had nothing to ask or say. His deep blue ocean-like eyes glanced around from face to face, and he began to grow curious. Who would he be paired up with?
The tiger noticed Abner's sudden movement and it got a bit startled. The tiger let out a snort. When it finally realized that Abner wasn't planning on moving anywhere, and was only going to a different part of the tree, it padded over to the same side and resumed his nap.
Scarlet raked her brain for any question that she could come up with. Nothing. She shrugged, sighing a bit. The question she probably would have asked was already being answered- or soon to be answered. She moved back to the castle wall and leaned against it again, resting her head on some of the warmer bricks. -
Silari tilted her head at Reea, as if the slight head movement might make him say something. He was still being unresponsive. She noticed why as she saw him rummaging through a bag that was slung over his shoulder. He must have forgotten. She let her eyes leave Reea. She looked to the group, lining them up in her head in order from the most dangerous to the least. It was an old habit, but she ended up getting stuck.
Everyone in this group was dangerous, Silari had to admit, and most were just as wary as she. It was an odd situation, but she almost liked it. It was new to her. She needed new. New practically described her personality. At first, she had Reea as the strongest, but found herself moving him around over and over. This would be hard.
Estelle frowned in agreement to Silari's head tilt, Castle's question. Once again, the group was on the same page. She looked around at the mismatched group of people in the clearing. Another question popped into her mind as she looked around: What if they didn't get along? She opened her mouth to ask but quickly shut it.
She decided that it would be best to keep it to herself. It didn't matter, anyways, and they'd find out eventually. Estelle knew that right now, the most important thing was finding out the team. She listened to Reea utter a curse as he threw the bag down, clutching a fistful of papers.
Darkar was the one who was extremely fed up with the wait. At this rate, it would take Reea days or weeks to say the answer to a simple question! He pinched the bridge of his nose in his anger. "Get on with it!" he yelled down to Reea.
Luckily for Reea, he had the answers to the question that had been asked, and knew that some of the unasked ones would be answered with these papers. He cleared his throat. The group locked their eyes on him, and he had to admit, it was really freaking him out.
"Everyone will be put into groups of two. Well, that had been the plan. We're missing someone, but she'll probably show up. It only means extra work for my group, and we'll be a group of three instead of only two." He took a glance at the people who seemed a bit unsettled. "I'm sure that there will be some disagreements.. Rest assured, that's just another part of the job. To see if you can get along well with anyone you're paired with. Your task is to go to the places specified, and capture the demon that is in that area." He held up the papers. -
He took off the glasses that he was wearing, placing them on his head. "Here are the teams. Scarlet, you're going to be pared with Estelle. This is your target. He's located on the north side of the town, that's back in the direction Estelle came from." Estelle blushed. Reea walked over to Scarlet, handing her the paper. A picture of a blonde male crouched down low to the floor was at the top, along with his information.
The blonde had long, wispy bangs, with cat-like yellow eyes. He wore an army green jacket that had fuzz around the head, concealing the back half of his head. He had baggy black pants that seemed to be for warmth. The only odd part about him was the steel claws sprouting from his hands.
"Salem Black, Male, Age 25
He literally controls blood.
Group in charge of capture; Scarlet and Estelle"
"Abner, you're going to be with Silari. This is your target.. And you're going into the front half of the forest." Reea put his glasses back on while handing Abner the paper. This time, a brunette teen was surrounded by water floating in the air, and his information was on the top of the paper.
The brunette had the darkest red eyes the team would probably ever see, He had a pirate-like black coat, and in the picture, it was flowing in the same direction as the water above his head was. The water was encircling his head and body like a wreath, flowing out of his palm.
"Louis Harlem, Male, Age 15
Controls glass, air, and water.
Group in charge of capture; Abner and Silari"
"Darkar, you were going to be with a sweet young girl named Kayla, but since she's not here, you're with me and Castle. We have to go to two places instead of one until further notice." He paused, looking at the other two groups, then his own team. "Our goal is to capture them. Injuring is fine, but they have to be brought back alive. They will be fully interrogated, and how can we talk to them if they're dead?"
If Reea's team were to look down at the remaining papers, they'd see two red headed mages. Both were smiling. Or smirking. Reea wouldn't be able to tell them the difference. The first male had headphones over his ears, his hand fingering the cord that was connected to his phone. He wore blood red glasses that were almost the same red as his hair. The rest of his clothing was all black. His skin was sickly pale.
"Vincent Winter, Male, Age 19
Controls sound waves; These waves can make people dance however he pleases.
Group in charge of capture; Reea and Castle"
The second male had unkept, darker red hair. Stitches went all around his neck. He wore a loose collared red shirt that had sleeves that went down to his elbows. His wrists were covered in bracelets. This mage was extremely odd. Not because of the fact that he was sticking his tongue out, but because of the fact that he had a thin, black, snake-like tongue that was on fire. He was practically breathing it.
"Damon Felton, Male, Age 30
Controls flames. -
Castle nodded silently at Reea. She was thinking about the extra work. Would she be able to manage? After a moment of thinking this, though, she darted over to Reea. "Do we leave now, or...?" She didn't dare finish. She let her usually stoic face dip into a frown, staring down at the papers in his hand. He gave her a signal that meant 'not yet'.
Darkar backed up a bit on the branch, then ran at full speed, jumping. As he became airborne, he half changed into a shadow phoenix. He glowed a faint gold color, wings sprouting from his back. His wings caught the wind and he floated right down to Castle and Reea. The glow died off a few seconds later, and the wings slowly disappeared. Darkar skimmed the pages. Stretching, he said, "I want to get going. I'll show these guys a thing or two. Mainly the fire dude. You mess with fire, you get burned." Reea laughed. "We'll leave soon," was his only response.
Scarlet let out a low chuckle as she eagerly inspected the photo. This should be fun, she thought to herself. She looked over to her partner. She walked over to Estelle. "Well, hey, partner," She mused happily. "Scarlet is the name, and killing's my game. Obviously, not now, but... You know." She grinned.
Estelle blinked quite a bit when she heard the killing part of Scarlet's introduction. It didn't freak her out, but it was odd. She shook it off, smiling, and said, "Hi. As you've heard, I'm Estelle." She glanced down at the page in Scarlet's hand. Scarlet held it up for her to read.
The claws on the man's picture glinted in the sunlight. Estelle read the whole page in silence. "So this freak controls blood, huh?" Her smile seemed to falter, but it quickly came back. It only made her more determined. "Sounds like fun." Scarlet nodded in agreement. Estelle turned to Reea. They locked eyes. "Do we just go?" Yet again, Reea made a signal with his hands. She let out a sigh, wondering why they had to wait.
Abner inspected the target on the paper with a frown. They would be fighting a teenager. Even though it made for no good excuse that this mage did things that were wrong, it worried him that they could be hurting someone who still had hope for becoming innocent. "Hm." He said softly, to no one in particular. He instantly began to calculate a plan.
It was good for Abner and his familiar that they'd be working in the forest. It was to their advantage. Elves were naturally good with nature, and with Abner's magical abilities, it made for the perfect combination. The tiger was able to climb trees fairly fast. It made for a good way to grab prey. As he was thinking this over, he looked up towards the girl that would be his partner. He nodded to her in greeting.
Silari nodded back, sliding up behind him and reading the paper. It took her a few minutes. When she was done, she turned her gaze to Abner, examining him briefly. She figured he would be a pretty good partner. She turned to look at Reea. "Is there a time limit?" Silari called out to him.
As if he had been waiting for this moment, Reea grinned as Silari shot her question. "There is no time limit what-so-ever. It's best if you take your time, actually." He paused, and everyone noticed his eyes flashed red for a split second. "We'll meet back here in the clearing. Don't forget to bring our guests along. I hope you all have read about your targets. Now, shoo."
Reea turned to his two partners. He was worried about Darkar's partner. Would she make it? He pushed it to the back of his mind. The grin he had given to everyone changed to a smirk. "Vincent's first. He'll probably try to help stop the other mages from succeeding, and will help his fellow mages. He's the strongest one on the list. That makes him our priority to get him out of the way."
Darkar smirked back. He was the first to react. "I'll be able to take him. I'm not exactly weak when I'm in my form. I can always fly if there's trouble on the ground."
Castle laughed at Darkar. She looked him up and down, then Reea, before once again looking at the papers. "Alright then, let's move." She reached for the paper with Vincent's description on it. Reea cheerfully handed it over to her. -
Scarlet instantly took off into the forest with Estelle following close behind. She slowed down once they were quite aways away from the castle. "We need a plan first," She said, eyeing the area around them. "He controls blood. I love blood, so that may be a bit of an issue for me." She looked over to Estelle.
Estelle easily connected Scarlet's like of blood to her like of killing. She thought for a long moment. "Think of the blood as 'bad'." She frowned. She honestly couldn't help with that sort of problem. "As for a plan, I don't have a full one, but I have something. We probably shouldn't face this head on. That would be way too risky. We have to sneak up on him." She walked alongside Scarlet, and suddenly, a thoughtful look appeared in her golden eyes.
~
Abner slipped into the woods with his partner. They took a different route than Scarlet and Estelle. He frowned, but then looked over at Silari, his eyes glinting with humor. "Do you know how to flirt?" He asked, flashing a grin. "We can always try a little 'I have a crush on bad boys' trick. Or use mind powers. That works too." He let out a sigh, shrugging his shoulder. The tiger followed behind them for a few minutes before taking off to go grab a snack or two.
Silari let out an embarrassed laugh. "I don't think flirting will get us anywhere, sorry. Not something I'm good at." She told Abner. "Anyways, his powers are his ability to control glass, air, and water, right? So what would his weaknesses be?" She brushed past a tree, glancing at their surroundings. It would be just great for them to defeat Louis and then get lost on the way back.
~
Kyla cussed at herself as she soared through the sky, her wings flapping in the wind. It was just her luck to get distracted. It wasn't her fault that she just so happened to pass a flock of geese while in the air. She couldn't resist interacting with the creatures that could fly just like her, and she told herself that it would only be a few minutes. Unfortunately, she was well past a few, and was horribly late. Kyla knew she couldn't classify it as being fashionably late, she was very well past that.
Kyla realized she was lost. Damn those geese! She began to panic. Luckily, she soon caught sight of a group of people. She flew down closer to them. She squealed in delight as she recognized Reea. She fluttered down quickly to them and hovered in front of the Lition. "Sorry that I've only just arrived. Is it too late for me to join?"
Reea blinked at the sudden appearance of the winged mage, slowly grinning. "No, Kyla, it's never too late! You're just in time. I guess that means that you have your partner now, Darkar." He ran a hand through his hair, adding, "This should make it easier. Of course, Castle, you'll still be with me." He glanced at Darkar, who was barely paying any attention, and handed Kyla the paper with Damon's information.
"Darkar will be able to fill you in, but just so you know, you two will be going that way," Reea pointed towards a spot deeper into the forest. "Have fun, don't die. Oh! Darkar, remember, bring the fire-eater back alive." Without any further instructions for the poor late mage, he took off again, not bothering to see if Castle was following behind.
Castle ran after Reea, staying silent as she studied the paper. She made sure to pay close attention to his facial features. After a few minutes, she folded it up and placed it in her pocket. She moved faster so she could walk at his side. "You seem eager to go," She said. She glanced up at him. "Why can't we just kill them? It seems so much easier."
Reea shrugged. "I just really want to meet this mage. Sure, I've read about him, but the guards gave me the papers for us to use. It's actually really entertaining to watch battle styles of other mages. Unfortunately, he's a bad guy, so it doesn't work very well.." He paused, looking over and giving her a horrified face. "Killing is never an option! It's horrible, getting another's blood on your hands. No matter how evil they are."
~
Darkar turned to his new partner. In the five minutes they had been together, he already felt like she would be a waste of space. He looked at her very seriously and said, "Listen, kid. Let me handle this guy. Can't have you getting your wings burned, now can we? Stay out of the fight. Got it?"
Kayla rolled her eyes. "Oh, please, a little fire isn't going to scare me away. We're supposed to be working together, anyways." She glanced down at the paper before smashing it up into a ball and throwing it aside. Fire... Maybe I can cook up a good storm? She thought. Being a good witch would actually be helpful this time around. -
Scarlet frowned at Estelle. "Blood is bad..." She repeated. It was like she was cursing herself. She huffed unhappily. "Do you think it would be better to get him alone, or in a mass of people? Even if her hurt someone, it could confuse him with all of the blood around." She pulled out one of her daggers, twirling it in her fingers.
Estelle frowned, shaking her head. "We can't face him in a crowd. This mission is for us and us alone! If we face him in a crowd, we're putting everyone in danger." She looked up ahead. "We're about half a mile away from the town. I think it's the one I was directing people to. Maybe we should stay out of sight, just in case he's around."
~
Abner chuckled lightly, relaxing. He was at ease. "Well, I suppose one weakness might be fire. Fire can melt glass, and if it's melted, we shouldn't have a problem." He paused, and a frown tok over the relaxed expression. "But, if we can lure him into the woods, I could use a few of my powers to bring him down. I'd like to assume you have powers as well, so that'd be a great help. You can finish him off if you'd like."
The tiger prowled back onto the road. A bit of squirrel blood was on his muzzle. The big cat licked the blood off, padding over to Abner's side. It looked over to Silari. Curious, it went over to her, sniffing her with his big nose.
Silari glanced over at Abner, allowing the tiger to take in her scent. She lightly patted its head. She was aware of how important it was for the tiger to get to know her better, or else it could mean trouble for her and Abner. "Why don't you tell me a bit about your powers?" She asked, sliding around a tree that was in the path.
~
Unfortunately for the teams, they weren't the ones being the ambushers. The mages they were after were silently following the teams, or way ahead of them. The teams, however, weren't aware of it, and it could cost any of them their lives.
Vincent was in the trees, and he was the one making the leaves rustle as Reea and Castle walked along. His headphones were in and he was listening to music, his eyes were sharp on his prey. He smiled as the favorite part of his song came on. He was delighted to be the one to take down the healing mage, and maybe snatch a pretty girl in the process.
~
Salem was slowly stalking behind Scarlet and Estelle. The claws that were in his hands were gently raking the ground, but to anyone who didn't know that they were being followed, it sounded like an animal. He was amused by their tactics and was proud of himself that he was able to get them alone. "I'm so sorry to ruin this little hang out." He finally said. He stood up at his full height of six feet and eight inches, smirking down at the girls.
~
Louis was just ahead of Abner and Silari. He was twirling his fingers, making the wind in the ten foot radius around him go faster, then slower. The trees rustled with his man-made wind. He couldn't hear them, but he could feel their body heat in the disturbance of his wind. He could probably go find them if he wished. He preferred waiting, though, and continued to mess with the wind.
~
Damon was in the shadows of Darkar and Kyla, having to switch from shadow to shadow as they turned to argue with each other. His lizard-like tongue was flicking in and out impatiently. He couldn't wait to have his hands around their necks. Better yet, he could burn them up to crisps. He grinned at the idea. -
