How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff.
I discovered the book when I was of the age of twelve, at a little travelling bookstore that happened to stop at our school, among all the childrens books and stories and little animal picture books(all they sold was child fiction), sat this gem. Taking it home I began to read, at the time a lot of things didn't make sense, a few words and phrases didn't make much sense "espionage" "sequestered", nevertheless I continued to read and soon found myself falling in love with it. I would sit with a dictionary while I read, trying to make sense of it all.
Just so you know, I was one of those kids who just had figure out everything on my own. No birds and the bees talk. Nothing.
I learnt everything by using google, the dictionary, the knowledge of the kids on the bus, a friend in her twenties and an old lady who was a bit like a grandmother to me. Most of the books I would read, the character would be 16 and over, you have no idea how much sentimental value the Lottie Biggs books hold for me, it helped develop my interest in pyschocology and mental disorders.
So as I was saying, I then reread the book four times during my year in grade 7...pieces were joining, read it twice last year and watched the movie(which left me speechless), and this year...I've been reading it very slowly cause I just about start hyperventilating if I read more than 5 chapters at a time. It just fills me with so many emotions, I've been paying close attention to everything and just...urgh so many feels ;-;
I can't even describe it, and then there are moments when I smile but then in the back of my head I'm thinking "DOOM DOOM DOOM ITS DOOMED".
And last night I even started crying, so yeah....umm I just wanted to share this, curious to see if anyone else gets the same emotions while reading something special to them.
And here's a little quote: "Then in came Osbert again with a face like a dead pigeon". -
There's something like that for me, but it's recent and it's a fanfic. Not sure if that counts.
