Fluffy3tini NoviceI just wanted to make this thread because I did a project on Oman and I wanted to know everyone's opinion and beliefs about it. I didn't really find any things about this on the internet.

Tsanchan NewbieI know several people who have been there and I have seen photos. Very nice place with great scenery. There is both desert and green semi tropical areas. There is coastlines and mountains. I have only been as near to there as Morocco, which is not that near.
The only thing to keep in mind is that it is an Absolute Monarchy and there are probably restrictions on free speech, etc. Not considered as bad as most absolute dictatorships and I have heard that the Fundamentalist violent Islamic movement is not big there, but they may still be about. Many areas have modern facilities as it is a rich country. There is a war in nearby Yemen. -
You know more than the people I know in life.
Only one person knew where it was and most of the others didn't even know it existed. -
Tsanchan2 NewbieI wanted to go. But lately I have not been making the kind of money I used too. I was friends with someone from there, he showed me a lot of great pictures. Arabs are usually very hospitable people. It's kind of extreme they are either really nice or they are totally crazy. That's why the region has a bad reputation. The really crazy minority have a lot of power.

Not many people know that Oman is peaceful because it's in the Middle East and most of the news that comes from the region is about war and problems and terrorism.

Tsanchan2 NewbieFrom what I was told its fairly peaceful, but part of it borders Yemen which is having a very bad civil war. I guess some terrorists may be going into Oman near the border. There was a bad civil war in Oman in the early 70s, but it was Communists and not Islamists fighting the sultan then. The probable reason Oman is mostly avoiding the terrorism and wars is that the Sultan is neither Sunni or Shiah, the rulers are a smaller sect called Ibadis. The Sultan, while an absolute ruler, has not exported terrorism like the Saudis have. I heard great things about Oman, but don't insult the ruler.
