Thread Topic: Community Feedback Needed
-
Following the events of last night, the moderating staff is working hard to make a layout of how best to handle situations that were brought up to our attention. We've discussed several topics, and we've come up with plans that will be outlined and pinned in a future thread.
However, we are struggling to come to a consensus on how to handle threads or posts that contain the following:
1. Slurs or racist commentary that are categorized by the poster as a "joke" or "satire"
2. Borderline harassment or insults that are categorized by the poster as a "joke" or "satire"
3. Threads with otherwise questionable or borderline content that is, again, categorized by the poster as a "joke" or "satire"
We have determined that, despite GTQ's age limit, it is not our job to hold anyone's hand. Therefore, from here on out, we will only delete content that goes against the ten outlined forum rules. Anything that needs further clarification or attention will be further discussed later.
We want to know how you guys feel about posts that fall on the border of breaking these rules in the name of humor. We're fully aware that humor is different to everyone, so we would like to know how "far" we should let a user go with a joke. Essentially, we want to make sure that users don't claim their offensive commentary is a joke simply in order to get-around having their content deleted.
Please state your honest opinion. If you'd like to explain in great detail, please do. We will listen to everything you guys have to say. The moderating staff does not want to take actions that are not necessary OR that are not backed by the community. We strongly believe that working with all of you is the key to a healthy, stress-free forum. -
i think that any jokes are fine as long they dont continue it to the point of harassment
-
Comes to context in my opinion. I understand the struggle though because it can be hard to tell if someone's actually "joking" or not. But that's a situation you'd have to try to read between the lines case by case.
You'd also have to check with parties as well. -
I think that if you delete border-lines, then the people that get these jokes and things, will get super angry, and post things that do go against the rules just to spite you, and we'll have a whole mess again.
-
anything attacking a specific user, or posted with the intention of upsetting/bullying a user should qualify for deletion (in cases against protected classes, ie race, nationality, gender identity, ect)
-
1. Slurs/racism should be marked or whatever (Joking or not, its not majorly good to begin with.)
Rule number 8 specifically says no racism or hate speech.
2. Harassment and insult? ain, isn't good. Marked or whatever you do. Even if a joke, people may still tske it seriously. Can be difficult to tell when someone if "joking". Especislly through text.
3. What kind of things do you mean here?
Something someone may post as a joke, but, as said, not everyone may know that though. Unless its obvioisly stated that it is, perhaps. -
1.) I feel slurs and/or any racist commentary is really unnecessary. It shouldn't be tolerated at all. If you wouldn't say it out in public, why would you say it on a forum.
2.) If the parties in this case know each other, and are okay with it, it would be okay. But, if it's randomized harassment then that most definitely shouldn't be tolerated.
3.) Satire and jokes can be handled without involving the two things listed above. If it goes against the forum rules, a warning should be given. If the user continues breaking the rules, I feel whatever happens should be the moderators decision. -
I think it varies, too, where the disagreement is taking place. I don't believe someone should be allowed to harass you in your own thread. If you go to someone else's thread, however, and they harass you there, you always have the option to leave. But I don't think someone harassing you in your own thread after you've asked them to stop is okay.
I don't think it should be made into a rule, but as a group we should discourage hateful speech because "jokes" really can go too far. Repeated behavior should be marked, especially if they've been asked directly to stop.
I don't have much commentary about racist threads and posts, unless it's outright, blatant racism. Almost anything is a racial slur nowadays. -
It really depends. If it's light hearted banter between two parties that have no malicious intentions, and if it's not anything like racism or sexism, which labels more than just the party, then it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

I agree with Mused Jade. Random harassment shouldn’t be tolerated. But with people that know each other and are relatively familiar with another, then as long as their words aren’t taken personally, it should be alright.
-
1) I mean it does say racism or hate speech isnt allowed on the forums, so I think ppl should probably abide by that, even if they're joking or using it as satire.
2) This one depends. Is the user who is being targeted clearly upset or has asked the poster to stop? And are the things posted clearly meant to be a negative influence on the person involved? Then those are probably not okay. But I see no issue with it if all parties involved are fine and have not otherwise mentioned it to be an issue. If somebody is pushing it tho and somebody has asked a mod to step in or has complained about it/asked them to stop or gotten upset w them , issue a warning first just so people are aware they're crossing the line with their joke/s, otherwise they might not be aware they're doing anything wrong.
3) as long as its following along with rules, and any age restrictions this site may have, or that you want to keep, its whatever lol. -
My opinion of jokes: they should be funny and make people laf ( even though i don't laugh often ) and not offensive. Eat one of Dracos toxic lollies for a chance to morph.

Wat guys u are talkin like some child psychologist I had a hard time reading ur commms.
-
Actually, scratch what I previously said.
If no onen's finding it funny, or if even a few people are finding it funny, but not the whole group in the situation, it should be deleted.
Granted, I do think that if you delete things like that, the people who posted it in the first place, or who enjoyed this "joke" will keep on posting things to more extremes just out of spite. -
isnt the kitty user lilly/luren?
