The first time I had it was the day that my grandmother died. We had family fly in from all different states and we stayed at her house for a few days.
She died early in the morning, so we were there all day. We skipped breakfast but lunch was coming up and we had to eat. For some reason, my grandma had this HUGE jar of elbow macaroni. Apparently, macaroni milk and butter was something that my older relatives had grown up on (uncles, cousins, ofc my dad), so they made that. It consisted of macaroni, milk, butter, and ground black pepper. I really liked it. Oddly enough, it was comforting and helped me through her death.
It's a very comforting food for me. I don't know how popular it is, though. -

I have had macaroni and butter with black pepper before. Very yummy. But I haven't tried it with milk as well yet.
It's nice that all your family was there.
