Thread Topic: Age restrictions

WeegeeMan NewbieIs it fair to deny people under 13 access to the site? I mean, I've never seen anything on this site that would suggest a restriction. Why would they even let you select your birthdate as something that would put you under 13 if they're just going to stop you? I've seen restrictions like this on so many sites that I'm starting to wonder if people want to deny young people access to the internet altogether. Believe me, just because you're younger than 13 doesn't mean you're immature or anything. I've seen 10-year-olds who are better spellers than 20-year-olds, for one thing... no offense to anyone here.

There is no way to restrict anyone from here. This has its advantages and disadvantaged. On the one hand, mature young people who can actually make a positive contribution to the site, can stay and still do that.
On the other hand, there are a lot of more immature younger users. THey don't know internet ediquite and misuse the site a lot.
The only reason for there to be an age restriction would be because of parents. It would be a safety precaution. If a 12 year old kid creates an account and goes somewhere like the anime forum and sees something innapropriate, the kid might not care, but the parent could raise hell and that would be bad for GTQ guy. But if there is an age restriction, it will either keep the kid away, or if the kid does see something and the parent raises hell, then GTQ guy can point out that the kid had to lie about their age to get there.
So yes, I do think there should be an age requirement. It won't change things at all. But it will give GTQ a security in any case.
